Yep, even seen some news suggesting we'll have to pay some of his wages for the remainder of his contract at Chelsea because Milan won't pay him as much as he's currently getting. Still, better for everyone if he goes. Essien will get more first team opportunities at Milan and we will get at least most of his wages off the books and can give someone like Aké the opportunity to play the games Essien would otherwise play.

Who remembers how beastly he was in the 09-10 season before the injury? I honestly believe we would have won the CL that season if he stayed fit.

Only Xavi and Iniesta were better CM's for me at the time. He was like Vidal on drugs.

There was also the epic defensive performance on Gerrard in the CL at those cunts place. Gerrard and Torres were both on fire at the time, he ate Gerrard up and in succession shut down the entire Liverpool team.

Should have gone down as one of the greatest midfielders ever. Period. Now he's just another "what if" story. Sad to see.

One of my all-time favourite Chelsea goals. Everything about it was orgasmic. The venue, scenario, the strike, the player, the pass, the celebration, the commentary (ESSSIIIIEEEEEEENNNN!!!!). Just awesome.

Sad to say goodbye to one of my favourite Chelsea player ever. A great combination of skill and strength with lion's heart. Midfielders like Essien, Lamps and Ballack were one reason why I started to support Chelsea. Best of luck, The Bison!

The news of Essien leaving will be just as sad as Mata. What a player this guy was in his prime. Covered EVERY blade of grass on the pitch, and has deservedly won every trophy going here.

You were brilliant Michael. Best of luck, always.

If we're measuring overall contribution in a Chelsea shirt, Essien far exceeds anything Mata achieved for us. Like you say, though he is sadly well past his best and injuries have taken their toll, he's been an incredible servant and I wish him nothing but the best for the future. Very, very proud to have watched him play for this club.
