Ashley Cole

Do people seriously want Cole to stay? He's been absolutely horrible for the past couple of years in most matches. Of course there are occasionally glimpses of the best LB in the world Ashley was only a few years ago, including his heroics in the Champions League last season, but he's become lazy and most of the time he simply doesn't bother showing up anymore. Kind of like Patrice Evra, but without the constant attacking threat.

Evra has been criticised but he offers a lot that you want for a LB IMO. Makes the few errors but overall very strong, fast, creates and has scored a few this season. Ashley Cole is just a shadow of his former self

It's obvious his head isn't in it anymore, what has he to play for when he has been told that he no future at the club beyond this season. Should replace him now, while it's a hard thing to do better to do it now then wait till the summer. It's the same with Lampard, if he wasn't chasing that record would he play with the same desire?

He's played like this ever since the double winning season under Carlo. His future has only became unclear last season when AVB didn't fancy him anymore and the fact is that he simply isn't that good anymore. He won't all of a sudden start playing better again if he gets a new contract. If that was the case, shouldn't he be playing as well as he possibly can to ensure he gets the best deal from whichever club he decides to join in the summer? Can't imagine the likes of Real Madrid or PSG being too interested if he plays like shit for the rest of the season.

What do you mean 'good fullbacks' - Ashley Cole is the best left back in the world & in all reality has been for the last 6 years. You're a complete fool & severely lacking in actual understanding of football if you don't think he deserved to be in the team of the year ahead of Marcelo.

The reality is that we need to keep hold of both of them at all costs, because it is just pure insolence to allow world class players to walk out the door for absolutely nothing. There is only more of a focus on Frank at the moment because he has been at the club for almost 12 years & is the greatest Chelsea player to have ever walked out at the Bridge - & he just happens to have hit top form & fitness after coming back from injury, making the club's stance even more perplexing & incomprehendable.

Cole is a legend in his own right, but if JT is the current reigning king of Stamford Bridge - then Lamps is the half-blood prince.

The fact is that if they don't get what they more than deserve & United manage to sign them both for free this summer, allowing them beef up their defense & invest in a world class keeper with all of the budget they have will have saved - then they are probably going to win everything for the next 3 seasons.

I don't know about you, but I'm not really willing to allow two of our best players to just walk away at the end of their glorious glittering Chelsea careers - only for any one of our rivals to snap them up & give them a chance to show us just how grave a mistake we will have made. It is simply illogical in every sense of the word.

That is why this entire situation with both of them is so maddening for even rival & neutral supporters, as well as world class players, revered managers & many of the few not-entirely-incompetant pundits.

Any club in the world would jump at the chance to have them in their team - apart from their current one it seems.

No he isn't some Harry Potter character.

Hes not untouchable. Hes a legend but being a legend doesn't make him invincible to not having his contract renewed. Cole is needed more than Lampard at the moment, deny that and your nuts. I'd sacrifice Lamps for Cole right now, even though I hate to say such a thing, both would be great as long as you tell Lampard he won't be starting 40 games a season now but he feels he can play every game still so maybe its better he goes.

This has been stated many times, AVB was turfed out because of him whinging about playing 150 mins over 3 games. I don't care who you install as manager, would Lamps accept that? Probably not.

AVB didn't fancy Cole simply because he didn't fit into his idea of playing a high defensive line and was tasked to phase out the older players.

Agreed a one year extension according to the Sun! Please be true!

Beat you to it :P

I don't trust The Sun but I hope this is true. Get him extended and then hopefully pick up Luke Shaw to learn from him.

Now I hope he just sorts his barnet out.

Lampard is a bigger legend here than Cole but Cole is definitely more important to our team. Hopefully this extension is true and then he goes abroad once his contract is up.

I'm a firm believer that he's amongst the top 3 left backs of all time. Those goal-line clearances that have become his trademark... mmmmmmm
