Fulham Broadway 17,363
Well we may be waiting a while -though I've a feeling an anouncement could be made tomorrow. The other thing about the Youth Academy is that it can pay for itself or generate a profit whilst fulfilling the facade of potential future first teamers. I am very suprised an announcement hasn't already been made to be honest, but because it is all being kept well under wraps we have zero idea what is going on! I would hope we will know something by the end of the weekend.

He heads a scouting network that is highly unlikely to ever produce regular first teamers in 99% of cases , but will still hopefully reap a profit. He may be good at talent spotting, and the next Terry or Ronaldo may be amongst the Cobham contingent , but his primary role is procurement of young players to develop and sell on. Bit like pimping. Hopefully our next manager will play Stoch and Sinclair et al and have faith ala Ferguson and Wenger.

Give all the players hopefully a carear in football and if good enough their first team. 99% of every clubs academy players will leave for another club, with that elusive 1% making it into the first team. No more moves on the new manager today it seems after the news that Scolari and Ancelotti are now targets for us. Hughes and Mancini still being the favorites, even though nothing has been confirmed on Mancini from Inter yet!

Academies at lower clubs have more urgency in producing players for the first team due to financial restrictions - less need at 'rich' clubs -they just buy off the peg ready made players and use the youth system as a cash cow. Oh to be a fly on the wall in Abarmovichs/Kenyons office -would make a fortune if you knew who the nexrt incumbent was

It is right that everyone is pushing for academies to be run better in the future, all clubs should be working harder to produce their own talent, and especially English talent. Yup, you would get decent odds on anyone at the moment, no-one has a f**king clue who the next boss will be. Hopefully the board do though! Thats because Wham Feeder Team are our real academy Sven or Scolari the more I think who it could be. How long before Hughes told Abramovich or Kenyon to do one ? How long before Hughes told Abramovich or Kenyon to do one ? Oh please not Sven..... really don't want to see Sven in charge!!! It's interesting that there is nothing comming out of the Hughes camp. Yesterday when someone randomly mentioned Keane, Quinn was all over the press gobbing off! But nothing out of Blackburn or Hughes. Could mean there is nothing at all there or it could mean talks are on and they are being ultra confidential.

Keane ? Blimey didnt hear anything about that. Keane is just the sort of 'personality' that the board will try and protect Abramovich from. They need a cotton wool buffer zone, which is why Sven with his polite demeanor, PR friendly manner is the sort they will go for. Also, tapped up before. I dont think he'd be that bad tbh -definitely knows his football, and although not my choice, is a massive, massive improvement on the fat tramp. Sven would be bottom of the pile of potential managers for me! I think they will go for who they feel is the best available, obviously depending on what their criteria is. Fulham Broadway 17,363
I can definitely see a Mancini/Sven partnership a possibility, seeing as they've worked together before. In fact might stick a couple of quid on that. If the last choice is anything to go by we'll have a Warnock/Holloway dream ticket
EskWeston 696
Why would Mancini and Sven work toegether, both would feel that they are good enough to manage a top club independantly.....
warnie_666 1,081
Ok....Now someone please explain to me why on earth is Scolari the front runner. No doubt that man has managed for many years, but h has managed a host of Arab and South American clubs. HE HAS ZERO experience of managing a European club. His only achievement is to help a star studded bookies' favourite brazilian team win the World Cup against a German team minus Ballack. He took portuguese to the Finals but failed to beat GREECE!!!...and does he speak english? I dont think so. I am not amused by this news. I dont want Scolari. I want someone who has an expirience of managing a European club.
misschief 24
Roman's stepped it up from the cone man. I reckon they'll announce a new manager tomorrow - he's been interviewing the ground staff all day apparently.
Gianfranco_Z 202
As Lippi has been ruled out, Hughes is the man I want for our club.
Stamford 3
I definately expect an announcement tomorrow, now they have sacked Ten Cate. Its obvious that the incoming man has told them he wants his team in there so its down the road with Henk first, then announce the new boss, I so hope its Sparky. Tough,Respected,Hard working player and I think with a big club, ie us, He will become a manager with the same and more credentials. The only thing that could be a bit iffy, is the Roman interference, I'm not sure Hughes would put up with that.
SuperSheva7 0
I really have no clue who is gonna be the manager next season. Though I personally want a manager has a good CV, one who can bring attacking football, can deal with the egos, incorporate some youth, and one that wont bring too much attention to Chelsea in the press, which Roman & Co. will deffo want.....if such a manager exists. As for the one that is most popular with the fans, I'm not so sure. Sparky is a nice choice for the romantics but I don't know if he has got everything we need in a manager right now. Don't get me wrong, I think Mark Hughes is great, he has many great qualities. He can command respect from the players and he is a fans favorite, but how can we hire a manager who hasn't yet managed a team in the UCL before when it is deffo one of our main targets next season? I just don't see it working out the same way that everyone dreams it will. It is always nice to have an ex Chelsea player as manager but that should be just a bonus. Whoever comes in as the manager of Chelsea next season, good luck to him, he'll need it.
