CHOULO19 24,332
but he could also capitalize from this mistake.I'm positive he will work much harder now, knowing his mistake cost us a goal and knowing he has 3 matches to show he can cope with the physicality. He won't want that repeat exactly because he knows it could cost him the position.I expect to see Cesar playing against Maribor now - even if LuÃs has been the guy for the UCL matches. He needs to be in his best physical condition to face United.I don't worry about QPR and the League Cup games. He certainly has the right attitude. He's shown that since moving here. I love that there isn't a single interview anywhere with him talking about his playing time since moving or anything negative. And Jose has praised his work in training.I think if he can keep his focus at all times he can certainly make the position his own in those 3 matches, especially at old traford. Myself 793
Palace was definitely not the best game to try and win his spot, hard team to play against.
Daniel1980 1,425
I thought he played quite well until the conceded goal. But it is rather understandable now why Jose doesn't normally play Luis in the PL games. He does appear a bit soft and lightweight for the PL. He needs to do better against United. The Chels 2,502
I think he probably needs to adapt to defending 1v1 more. At Atletico the fullbacks are hardly ever isolated 1v1 since they always press in groups and outnumber the wingers, meaning Luis could afford to miss the first challenge as somebody would be there to mop up with the second. Committing himself here was risky though but I'm sure he'll learn, and apart from that misjudgement he had a good game.

mikeholiday 209
Positioning and passing fairly solid. Weak challenge against Zaha tho that led to nervous last 4 mins and Dom Solanke not getting his debut.

bluesman2610 1,417
He made a challenge and the ball rebounded back to Zaha.. could have been stronger but ball slipped through his legs then the cross went through Terrys legs can hardly say that he was awful.. Terry deals with that at first post we don't concede and Luis doesn't have a "bad" game and won't need to "step it up" Barbara, Styles and The Skipper
Popular Post! Styles 9,790 Posted October 19, 2014 Popular Post! Share Posted October 19, 2014 I thought he did OK and was ufortunate that the ball bounced perfectly for Zaha. Let's not pretend like Azpilicueta wins 100% of his tackles. bababoom, The Chels, Blue-in-me-Veins and 2 others

LAB 1,030
Well at least now Jose will be forced to start him and he is about to have ~270 minutes of PL time.

Milan 17,957
I am sure a lot of people will feel much more relieved after today's game than after the Palace one. It was only Maribor but he needed some start and boy did he look great on the left flank, from both defensive and offensive points of views. mediator
DYC. 7,542
When was the last time a Chelsea fullback produced such attacking play? With his level of comfort on the ball, dribbling past players, linking up with the attacking players, the energy to constantly join attacks (without neglecting his defensive duties)..The only thing lacking was him whipping in those delicious crosses. Great performance. Barbara, mediator, Joker10 and 1 other
Blue-in-me-Veins 4,067
He was sublime. Love the way he pinches in, when defending. Not sure how it will hold-up over the long haul, but it was interesting to see his style of defending.
MrExcalibur100 7,124
The red card to Azpilicueta was a blessing in disguise. He's been immense to us defensively for a season and a half but now we see what a real LB can give us in attack and defense. zolayes and Stats
Stats 7,142
IMO we got the most complete LB in Europe in our team. Azpi has been excellent in the LB role but I am happy to see Luis get a few games in a row at LB. Ideally I want Luis as our first choice RB with Azpi and Ivanovic rotating RB role. Luis is far too good at LB to leave on the bench. He was excellent at Atletico. Bar the Palace game, he has been solid in every game this season he has stepped in. For club and country. zolayes and The Chels
