Conte: "The money is not everything. When you play for a great team like Chelsea, you must be pleased." (Telegraph)

Conte: "I think we are a great club and its a great honour to play for Chelsea for this reason I don’t see [China] as a threat for my players"

I love Conte, but in this he is wrong.

I go with his original analysis stated a couple of weeks ago:

Bollocks. Oscar didn't have a future at Chelsea. Not a Conte player. That last point about Chelsea wanted to keep midfielder is utter bollocks.

"Wanted to keep" could mean that the club wasn't actively looking to sell him this January which I believe to be true, but when such an offer comes for your benchie you take it and run.

I can understand why he wants to go (if the China stories are true).  It's A LOT of money.

It's the kind of money that takes care of generations of his family.  If offered 3x your wages, I think most people would get their resignation in ASAP.

It's unfortunate for us as a club, the timing is terrible.  But, we're on the other side of the fence all the time.  Napoli didn't want to sell Koulibaly to us, they didn't.  We tried, but it didn't work.  The player wanted to come.  I'm sure OM wanted to keep Bats, but they money was right, so they sold.

Loyalty in football these days is a one-way street (for the most part).  Loyalty = If you're a really good player, we (fans) want you to stay at the club.

If they aren't up to scratch, we can't wait to see the back of them.

I'd love for him to stay at the club, because he's an important player.  But, I don't blame him for taking care of himself and his family.

But, I will say, the club should hold out for more money.  If they want to pay him 500K a week, and Oscar is worth 60.  Diego should be sold for 100-120M.

I'm not sure about what the top wage earners get in the Premier League, but IIRC Rooney earns 300k/week... With this in mind, I would give him 250-275k rather than 200k for his new contract. He truly is a top 5 player in the league in my opinion and replacing him would be close to impossible (getting the same strike rate Costa offers in the prem from another striker) so I say just give him the money he wants and keep him until 2022. We can't do an arsenal and start being stingy with our best talents, it's not in anyone's interest

I'd understand if the dude had 10 kids and 5 wives, but the guy is a bachelor (as far as I know) so don't see how 200k+ is necessary to live the life he wants and save for the future. Back in Brazil that money would go very far. I can understand players with wife and kids wanting to earn that money, but a single guy playing football on 100-150k per week is more than sufficient. Privileged cunts.

Lol. Dumb post.

200k vs 600k. Take away your Chelsea glasses and realize this is a job for these players. Just cause they love their job doesn't mean they will be blindly loyal to your club.

By your logic since Chelsea has so much money, paying him 600k a week should be easy

Ironically you sound like the privileged cunt.

it's not a matter of "necessary", that is very subjective and can mean anything... This is a case of Costa earning around 4-5Mpounds net, after tax and a Chinese club offering him 30M pounds net, after tax... That is a HUGE pay increase and any and every human on this planet who would get offered such a deal would at least pause and take the time to consider it. He can play 4 seasons there and get more than 100,000,000 pounds, that is an amount that is very hard to turn down for anyone...

Its really hard to think in those types of numbers. I dont care who you are it would be very difficult to turn that sort of money down. Specially coming from playing on the streets like Diego.

But then £200k isn't nothing to sniff at plus being somewhere you are loved by all with a shit hot club, a manager that hugs you with realisticv ambitions of silverware.

A big choice.

Costa and Hazard are currently only two Chelsea players paid more than 150k/week (Costa 180, Hazard 200) :) Imagine the effect that 300k/week would have on our locker room :( It's all about chemistry, nobody is bigger than club ;) He can leave asap if he is here just because of money. Of course he is world class striker but we need 100% or nothing.

200K a weak contract is too much for him,Hazard who is the best player in the league is on 200k a weak and sorry but Costa is not in top 5 in the league.
