Cesc Fàbregas

I know he contributed to the problems KDB, navas and sometimes silva caused mostly attacking from the right wing (Matic usually filled in at centre-back when Cahill followed the runner behind Alonso.... fabregas didn't do this which caused 3 v 2 situations à lot) but I was impressed with fabregas staying centrally beside kante, disciplined, not leaving gaps in and roaming anywhere he likes. It looks like Conte has actually helped him with that.

I hope we don't go for Nainggolan now. We got Kante already, Nainggolan is also probably 28 or 29, same age as Cesc and isn't an upgrade in all fairness to either Kante (wasn't 100% sure about getting him and not Nainggolan at first in summer but been proven wrong), Matic or Cesc. Not even gonna mention Rudiger because he's pretty average and isn't better than any CB we have at the club.

Nainggolan is an upgrade to Matic me thinks.

I still want him, but to replace Fabrega for him is no real replacement. The only replacement for Fabregas is Verrati.

Much rather tempt PSG with Fabregas plus money for Verrati....that as well if Fabregas wants to leave.

Sublime performance. EVeryone with half a brain could predict that he'd get into Kroos territory in terms of touches in this kind of match. 68 at half time already.  Makes such a difference when he has space and does not have to run at full speed (his top speed was just under 30km/h yesterday which is about the speed sporty 17 y.o. girls will run at a 100m sprint on average).

That made me wonder how, in his late 20ies where a man should only be marginally past his physical peak he has becme such a shadow of the player he once was. I remeber when he used to be the emperor of flat track bullys at Arsenal scoring that outragoes solo goal vs Tottenham where he sprinted 40 metres in like 5 seconds.

At that time Cesc gave anintrview to a minor German sports paper where he claimed his idol was Lampard who he had not reached yet but ho to do so in the near future. I remember that passage because I actually feared that might eventually hapen. How wrong we both were. Fabregas never came even close to reaching the level Lamps had in his early 30ies. Shows how too much playing time at a young age can wear a player out early.

I have feeling Eden will go the same path. In terms of speed atleast. He is playing top tier football every game since 18.

Hopefuly not.

He should be a starter until the Tottenham game. Teams have started figuring us out and we need as much creativity & goalscorers as possible in the team. His comments about his current role & what he offers to the team are bang on the money.

Quote

"People forget it's only the second time in my life, in my whole career, I've played this system," Fabregas told the club's website.

"My team-mates have played a lot more than me. Against Manchester City [in early December], it was a big test because it was the first game. I'm getting used to it, I feel very comfortable.

"I have a lot of players in front of me so I can pick passes between the lines, they run into space and I have protection behind me. I'm really enjoying it and I think it suits me a lot."

The 29-year-old's goal in midweek clinched Chelsea's 10th consecutive Premier League victory and coupled with recent slip-ups by rivals Liverpool, Arsenal and Manchester City, the Blues have a six-point lead at the top.

"People say I cannot defend but I recovered the ball, went forward and scored [against Sunderland]," Fabregas added.

"I know what I can do but the problem is I haven't had minutes, and if you don't play you can't show what you can do.

"In football nowadays, people forget very quickly who you are, what you've done and what you can do. Hopefully now I can have a run of games to keep my fitness up and show what I can do.

"We can compete. I've seen many times teams winning titles -- Manchester United, Arsenal and Chelsea -- where these 1-0 victories are so important. Hopefully we can keep it up."

The Kante/Matic partnership has been found out in recent weeks.
