coolhead23 1,147
It seems there is no motivation left in him this season ... he wanted to win the PL which is achieved, wanted to show that he can still be part of winning side which is done.To up his game at the CM position he will need to up his game... which means putting in defensive efforts & that cant see him doing ... No10 not sure, he not able to dicate play, he will need to really step up ... Jose need to show him some carrot for which he can fight for else he will soon become a liability for us. dmode 113
Whats with the Witsel hype? He is average player, a safe player ala Mikel. Long are gone his days from Benfica. Joao Moutinho on other hand...There are no easy players in the market to replace Fabregas. You can either go for a strong CM and lose creativity or you can go for a creative player and lose dominance. And all of them are going to cost a lot. What Chelsea needs is Fabregas to get back on form. Even off form he made that two passes to Costa, one was a goal and the other was a near goal. He is that effective. You are just not going to find another player in the market readily available and with that kind of ability. Also, note that he looks worse in off form than other players because he is constantly making risky passes behind the defense. He is anticipating runs and putting the ball there, so when the run doesn't happen or the ball doesn't have precision, it goes nowhere. If Chelsea is to win the league he needs to be back on top of his gameOne way to really transition during his bad form phase could be to play 4-3-3. With straight up Matic-Mikel-Fab midfield. Willian can be sacrificed without losing much

If Mourinho hurls him off at halftime in a match he'll play with more hunger in the next few games xPetrCechx

But Modric, Verratti, Moutinho, Koke etc on the other hand are. While Moutinho is not tall, he is twice the player off the ball, he tracks back. You dont need typical DM for that. Matic having Moutinho next instead of Cesc will be revelation. And Moutinho would do exactly what Cesc is doing (albeit slightly less creative) plus being alot better in defense. Perfect to make Cesc work harder to get back in form. That said, I just dont see Cesc being our longterm midfielder. I just dont see it. His defensive flaws are too big. Unless we buy Pogba or someone similar and play 4:3:3. But in double pivot (terrible defending) or as #10 (cant hold ball under pressure), I dont see Cesc perform in big games. It has nothing to do with his current form tho. I have been saying that last season when he was making assist nearly every game.
Jase 43,479
He's missing that hunger in his game. Way too comfortable atm. It's almost as if he's become satisfied after winning the Premier League last season. He's the Mata of CM but Mourinho, funnily, is turning a blind eye on that. If he's going to get away with not doing anything at all defensively, then he needs to really contribute more going forward. Can't have a player who's doing nothing in the starting XI. kellzfresh and Blue-in-me-Veins

Juventus has been pretty successful by fielding a team to cover for Pirlo's limitation. Chelsea is going to buy a big name midfielder, if not this year, but for sure next year. Who knows, Mourinho may switch to 4-3-3. in big games

But the difference is in their qualities; Pirlo shows them in big games, Cesc doesnt.

Clockwork 1,794
Why is he so slow?? Is he really just 28??He is out of shape. Just look at this picture, he needs to drop weight. Should be dropped from the staring XI but he won't.

Dropped for who exactly? He's out of the team and we have zero creativity from midfield. Hazard and Pedro then lose their link to midfield and Costa gets barely any service.Cesc is almost a must for our team. stroey

Mechromancer 262
I don't think so; with Francisco Fàbregas Soler we play much better. He can resolve any game with a magic pass, also. Not using a player with his quality it's just dumb. And if our options are John Michael Nchekwube Obinna or Ramires Santos do Nascimento, well...
