🇪🇸 Cesc Fàbregas

As a #10 seriously? He isn't agile and he isn't quick enough to move through the opposition defence and deep midfield. He would get pressed into oblivion. Playing him as a #10 is like Xavi or Pirlo as a #10. They need the room of being deep within their own half to operate. He isn't going to get the luxury of players like Vidal and Marchisio making up for his lack of athleticism here, either.

Maybe against a deep defensive line it would work but a high pressing team would wreck Cesc as a #10.

I just don't get one thing.

I've heard his form for Spain this season has been brilliant, even getting a MOTM here and there (Iirc). So what's the difference between him playing for Spain and playing for us?..

Haven't seen Spain play for a while now but i've heard the same thing about Fabregas this season.

If i had to venture a guess i'd say they pack their midfield more and play more over the ground then we do, which would benefit Fabregas.

Imo 4-3-3 is the only way we can make full use of Fabregas.

Cesc needs special conditions to fulfill his potential, we aren't offering them. We did last season during the first months.

That means he should be a squad player, not the guy we rely to get us from trouble. But we don't have any player - except Willian - that has been taking us from trouble lately.

Matic needs to play much better, we need much better movement from AMs and striker, we need a more compact team, that offers him coverage and that presses a lot more than we do. We must not rely on him to harass opposition, we need Willian and Oscar - or whoever completes the midfield alongside Hazard, to be much more effective in their marking, not to mention a 4-3-3 suits him all much better than 4-2-3-1. If all those things happen and stars align, Cesc can play for us the same he played last season or is rumored to have played for Spain (as I haven't watched either).

Moving him on is the right idea but who do we bring in to replace him? January is a terrible time to do business and we've got a bunch of numpties in charge so I don't hold out much hope.

Might just be worth recalling Lewis Baker. Can't be any worse.

I don't think we're selling anyone established in January, because as you said there's no replacements available.

I'm anticipating a very quiet market to be honest. Club's going to take a 'do the best with what you're given' approach, I'm sure.

Yeah this calndar year (2015) he did absolutely nothing to stay in a team and use Ruben's place.

Because we have used him poorly. 4-2-3-1 is the wrong formation. It would be cool to see Guus play Ruben in a midfield 3 with Cesc and Matic

It would be stupid to sell him now without getting the new coach first.

Cess is still a good player. He is just to old to teach new tricks like been a more defensive player. If for instance we get a coach like Conte or Conte himself and Cesc gets a formation with quality energetic ball playing midfielders screening Cesc and doing the defensive duties like they did for Pirlo, Cesc would a vital asset for years. His skill craft does not rely on speed or power but intelligence just like Pirlo and he can last for almost another 10 years playing top quality football. The emphasizes is on solid, BALL PLAYING CREATIVE AND ENERGETIC MIDFIELDERS not just average players with athletic physical gifts but extremely poor technical skills

I stole this quote from weaintgotnohistory.
