What aspects of Costa's game would you say are similar to Mandzukic's?

Workrate, hold up play, linking up with others, heading ability, physical like STs, not the most talented players in terms of skills/technique etc...

Is Mandzukic good outside of the box, though? Watching him during this seasons CL he looked like a terribly clumsy oaf when he got the ball and tried to run with it. I was under the impression that he was a pure in-the-box striker in the Chicharito mould.

Not sure if the Mandzukic this season is a fair representation of what he's like as a ST considering Guardiola's style of play doesn't suit him entirely. A better judgment would be the Mandzukic last season under Heynckes. There was a reason why he was the preferred ST choice then rather than the prolific Mario Gomez because he offers a lot to the team.

He's very good outside the box. One of his better attributes really... Great feet for a man his size.

I'd say the bolded sections are where the similarities end. Costa is not very good in the air, he likes the ball to his feet. Rarely do you see Diego play with his back to goal holding up play. Link up play they do differently I'd say...

If Lukaku's career at the club is over, I'd be very happy if we signed this guy in addition to Costa. Watched a lot of Bayern this year as I've been living in Munich lately and let me tell you, this guy is fucking good.

Costa + Mandzukic would be amazing, defo one of the best strike forces in world football.

According to Bild, #Bayern have bid €30m for Luiz. Bayern are confident that the deal should go ahead & could be wrapped up this week. #CFC

Roman Abramovich is said to have hired Serbian football agent called Vlado Lemic to broker the Luiz/Mandzukic deal on #CFC's behalf (Bild)

Mourinho wants Mandzukic [who is keen] to join #CFC as part of the deal. Luiz favours a move to #FCB, who are offering higher wages (Bild)

Well one thing is for sure, if Mandzukic comes here then we 100% need to bring in a new LB. He's awesome in the air and we can't have Azpi on one side who very rarely gets into crossing positions and Ivanovic on the other side who sails 80% of his crosses into the stands. Willian is just about the only attacking player who crosses the ball.

Willian crosses the ball alright but it's mostly cross field passes. He hardly puts in quality balls into the box.

Madnzukic seems to score most of his goals from crosses in open-play, which is unsurprising considering Lahm and Alaba are the players picking him out.

Our crossing is an absolute disaster, it's unlikely to improve for as long as we have Ivanovic at RB and a right-footed LB.

Just look at the accuracy on these crosses. Our attacking players aren't even that precise let alone our fullbacks!

Has Mourinho expressed any desire to play a 4-3-3 as his main formation?

Him vs the good teams....

Also, Martinez is a mourinho type of player. Strong, hard working and a leader.

We don't need him, do we?

Matic+Martinez midfield would be monstrous.

And no before you ask a Martinez+Matic is not too defensive. I covered this with another poster a few months back, and WEAINTGOTNOHISTORY did a good piece on it also recently.

Its how Bayern set up not the only way for him to score though.

Chicken or egg?

Is our crossing so bad it makes our strikers look mediocre or are our strikers so mediocre that they make the crossing look bad?

Azpi and Ivanovic are both more than capable of putting in a good cross - who are they supposed to aim for?
