Mouri_Matic 560
II can't talk for other people, but from what I gathered from most we 'didn't overreact' we just had a reality check about where we stand today - after we take into consideration we played Madrid first team while we had serious absences in ours. We have great chances in EPL imo, but I would consider SF in UCL something out of this world. I see our potential being round of 16 or QF depending on the teams we draw. Even a challenging group may present more than we can handle now because UCL starts next month and we'll still be very "green" as we say in Portuguese (meaning not ready enough). From the moment we have the mindset that we cannot get out of CL group stage we are fucked. That won't be good enough for a team like us, getting out of the group stage is A MUST. Actually imo we should at least finish in QF unless we draws Bayern/Barca/Madrid/Dortmund in the last 16. Barbara 15,149
I get it that Lukaku isn't ready to play in the big matches. He still has lots to learn but it's the mentality that matters and the friendly games never bring out that mentality in the players, let alone a 20 year old kid! I remember him chasing the ball around like a dog for West Brom and that was how he got one of his goals, i think it was against Sunderland. That was commitment, that showed that he was dead serious in scoring goals, making his own name! Again, i am not saying he is the answer to our striker problems. Not yet but if we don't put just a little amount of faith in him, he might just lose his interest altogether. And faith is a two way lane! You lose something, you gain something but you gotta take the chance! SO as i said, Rooney for me is a luxury, he will give us the X factor and all that but i am definitely not shitting myself at the prospect of our strikers failing and our team going into a turmoil or something like that! Why? Because we have Jose Mourinho, during his first season with Chelsea, he rotated Gudjohnsen and Didier perfectly. Didier did not light up the PL in his first year, far from it! But he became an integral part if the team which i want Lukaku to be!! key word being the part in bold. I've never lost my faith on him. I have plenty of faith on him becoming what we need, not being what we need. He isn't ready today but I think he will and I hope it will be soon (meaning before the season ends). Some people don't simply have faith on him, they have made him the savior. All in all I still think it's better to start Torres in most matches at first and have patience with Romelu so he progresses naturally (supposing we don't get another striker, and I think odds are we won't ). He'll be challenged to take Torres' position instead of having to prove himself and solve our issues. Let the pressure be on Torres. He'd 29, an experienced bitch, if he can't handle it that's his problem. Romelu is promoted to the first team in a much more pleasing (and easier) way than starting him against ManUtd, ManCity and whoever else in the first 5 rounds. From the moment we have the mindset that we cannot get out of CL group stage we are fucked. That won't be good enough for a team like us, getting out of the group stage is A MUST. Actually imo we should at least finish in QF unless we draws Bayern/Barca/Madrid/Dortmund in the last 16.I meant us - the fans - not the team. They have to believe they can win. Didn't the team that won UCL for us believed it til the end? And this team is much better than that one in so many aspects, and they did. It's our expectations as fans that should be moderate and realistic. I think we could make QF - but if we fail to do that, it's okay and if we better than that is more than okay! But I think our reality today is QF at most. Exiting on group stage like last year it is a risk though... to almost every team actually because we don't know the groups yet. I think there are only 3-4 teams that we could say will qualify to knockouts regardless of their group (we played one of them today). The rest (2nd tier, not 2nd class) while expected to advance, could fail. Manchester United failed the year before we did. So did ManCity (although that's sort of expected ). Stingray 9,441
3-1 against one of the absolute best sides in the world (Bayern, Barca and Madrid) is not bad at all, considering our line-ups, changes and missing two of our nailed on starters Luiz and Mata. The attitude may not have been the best, but seriously CALM down. I've just read the post-match thoughts of Mourinho, and I completely agree. Preseason is the time to make mistakes so he can analyse them and correct them. We have a young team, and they are bound to make mistakes throughout a season, and show dire attitude too. If we overreact everytime this happens, Roman may as well end up doing something stupid.Give the team some support (not blindly), Madrid is not easy opponent. Considering our victories against Inter and Milan with the exact same youthful setup and the vast changes made at halftime, I think this team has an unbelievable amount of potential both in the short term and long term. I for one can't wait, and don't really care about the result!Completely agree ! Also, some of the posts don't seem to know what they want. Either you play to gain fitness and automatisms and you discard the result or you play for result. We simply took the first option. So not fazed at all here. Patience .... The hysteria on here (regarding future CL, EPL, ...) is reaching epic proportions.
bushman 2,043
What can I say here ? I am tired this morning, disappointed from the game itself. Real were a better team, last night. Chelsea had trouble to touch the ball in the first 15 minutes. Marcelo scored at 14 minute, but somehow Ramires got free & equalized 2 minutes later. Jose decided to play Frank even though he was out of shape, played Ramires on the wing, totally useless there too. After the half, Chelsea came on with several changes, things looked promising then. Hazard had a glorious chance to score, but the dimwit missed it. Then Real popped the 3rd goal in & the game was over. One might say, it was only friendly. Like fuck, I say. This game showed me Chelsea still pretty far away from the top of the heap, I feel. Erratic passing, hardly any flow from the middle, defense not working together....plenty of mistakes were seen there.Perhaps, Jose should consider to help the midfield, a creative midfielder would help a lot, instead of buying fucking shrek. After all, what good is a striker if there is no one to pass the fucking ball to him ?

Christacinto 137
So guys, I got up last night to watch the game and must say, I'm rather regretting having done so right now, since I arrived at work after 4.5 hours of broken sleep...- woe me, where have those eternal college days gone... like summer rain through the mountains!-I couldn't sleep at first, but later took solace in the fact that Madrid really are like the Navy Seals of football. Well, maybe not really since SEALS get trainedas a unit, and Real players are bought hoping to become a unit, but you know what I mean. No one gets into the REAL team until they're accomplished stars, with a club policy that splurges exorbitant amounts of (tax!) money without thinking twice. I thought Spanish football, much like the country, had reached ina state of financial crisis? Must not have reached the capital...What's more is that last night, in stead of a spoiled, sulking collective of ego's we saw an overly motivated group coming together as a unit to get back at Mourinho.Ronaldo really bossed it and I couldn't much flaw their performance. Lets' face it, a REAL team on fire like that can only be overcome either by something very specialor a stroke of luck. Neither of which we conjured up last night... So guys, I know emotions always run high when we combine sleep-deprivation with losing, but rather thangiving the (majority of our) players who underperformed last night too much stick, let's keep our chins up, the blue flags wafting from above, and find peace inone of life's truest creeds; that sometimes you win, and sometimes you learn. If anything, this has given Mourinho the amunition he needs to improve the squad.Blue regards from a walking zombie,
Barbara 15,149
on a lighter note... instead of making my bf like football I guess I scared him to death. He's never seen that side of me in the 27 years we know each other. BlueLion. 21,491
Am I concerned about the result or performance against one of the top four sides in the world, in a pre-season friendly? Not one bit."Blessing in disguise" potentially. It shows we cannot compete with Real Madrid, or teams of that ilk. We still need to spend, and hopefully this speeds up Rooney's arrival, and makes José think twice - maybe we do need someone like de Rossi or Khedira to add some steel to the midfield. José will have learnt more about his players today than he will have in wins over two piss-poor Italian sides right at the start of their pre-season, and a couple of woeful "all-star" teams. This was a great experience for a young team, but defeat will also serve as an important reminder that we are not infallible, and whilst we still have momentum heading into the new season, results mean nothing in pre-season. All that matters right now is being in a good enough position to beat Hull and Aston Villa, and put in a performance against Bayern in our first three matches.Anyone seriously concerned after this pre-season friendly against one of the top four sides in the world, please gladly line up so I can take you out with a single stroke of Mjolnir. teignman 441
If anything, this game just showed us our problems from last season are still present and not 'cured' like how some people have been making it out since Mourinho returned. We still got defensive deficiencies, as illustrated mainly for the 3rd goal (shocking, abject, abysmal defending!!!), lacking that bite in midfield and no top quality striker upfront that would make a huge difference for us.Agree to an extent.I do take some comfort in the fact that this was a preseason match against one of the top sides in the world, but this "exhibition" brought up some painful reminders of our frailties last season, primarily in midfield and defense. Special Juan 28,141
Just read Jose's comments, puts everything in to context.Never nice to lose, but with losing comes a learning path, learn from it. Jose will get it right, it's one defeat in amongst some really good performances on this tour, let's not get too flustered.
