chrismada9 1,948
Not exactly a rumor but... not a bad alternative if we can't get Koulibaly am I right??? Eliaquim Mangala leads Pep Guardiola's clearout as Manchester City boss looks to remove deadwood http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-3730149/Eliaquim-Mangala-leads-Pep-Guardiola-s-clear-Manchester-City-boss-looks-remove-deadwood.html Would you consider Mangala as an option, if we can't get Koulibaly from Napoli? I don't care if he's good / bad, I'd take ANY defender right now!!

Jype 6,398
Would definitely take him, no doubt about that. Hasn't been that good for City but can't be worse than our current lot and got a feeling Conte would make better use of him than Pellegrini did. petre.ispirescu 4,928
No way they'd sell him to a direct rival. He is probably going to Italy on loan with an option to buy set at around £15-16m next summer.
King11Didier 916
If we can't get Koulibaly maybe a loan move for Mangala won't be such a bad decision. But I can't see this happen unfortunately.

And he was rejected based on his desire to play. Mangala, on the other hand, was rejected by a decent man, based on his performances. Anyway, I don't think we will sign him. DYC. 7,542
Only on the cheap. Taking a City reject looks bad enough (different if it's a big talent or a proven top player before moving to the club) and giving them more spending power would only make it worse. I'm convinced Mangala is better than the current CB options, bar Zouma. Conte would get more out of him than Pellegrini I think. But not a real upgrade and Zouma provides similar qualities. Mangala-Zouma for now and two out of Christensen, Zouma and Mangala next season wouldn't be bad. But more as a desperate move at the very end. Sterling went from Liverpool to City for £49m. Strange things have happened.. if big money is offered, the player will go.. unless City want to keep him. In this case, it's clear that City don't, so it'll be no surprise that they will hold out for a big offer. Rivalry doesn't really talk big anymore. If the signing would improve our starting lineup, who cares what it would look like to others? If anything there's a chance to make City look like real mugs if Conte managed to get the best out of Mangala, which is not that far fetched when you think about it. There's a reason City paid £40M for him two years ago and even tho he hasn't been at his best he's still just 25 years old, not even reached his prime yet. City just aren't that good with defenders really, they had fucking Jerome Boateng but sold him to Bayern for peanuts. That Stefan Savic lad wasn't all bad either, just didn't fit in at City but was great at Fiorentina and now plays at Atletico Madrid who are really good defensively. I'm telling you, whoever gets Mangala will get a pretty good player and I'd assume for a reasonable price too considering the current market with no cheap quality defenders available. And as for giving City more spending power that should be the least of worries, firstly because they will sell Mangala to somebody else if not us and get the money anyway and secondly who else could they possibly still buy with that spending power? They've brought like six or seven players in already this window and there's a limit for everything, the money they'll get from any sales has already been spent this summer. Really doubt we'll get Mangala but I would really like it if we did. Koulibaly first priority but if the negotiations for him aren't going anywhere say this time next week the club should just move on and start considering other options, and Mangala should be one of them. Blue_Fox_ 2,086
Pellegrino managed him, of course he was shit defensively. There is a good defender somewhere in this lad.

How did City pay £42m for this donkey defies all logic.
