UCL Draw Thread

Basel are the hardest team for us, they are our bogey side. But the easiest team probably would be Bayer, we should beat them with ease. PSG & Juve are hard too. I think Juve will be best to get, time for revenge.

How on earth are Basel our bogey side? We have played them 4 times and each of us have 2 wins. People are overreacting to Basel just because they defeated us twice last season but seem to forget that we beat them twice two seasons ago. And just like I mentioned earlier, it's laughable people think Leverkusen are the easiest team of the lot.

When's the draw?

Next Monday, at 11am UK time.

Umm....because they were the first team to beat Mourinho's Chelsea at the bridge and beat us twice, without letting us have a single shot on target that game. In fact, Basel are a bogey side for English teams in general, we saw what they are capable of doing against English teams and they did it to Liverpool. Basel will try to make a name for themselves and history for the club, if they manage to get to the Quarter finals. They will be a very hungry club in the 2nd round. Not saying we can't beat Basel but we all know for a FACT that they are capable of beating us HOME & AWAY. I think if we are drawn with Basel and if we manage to get past them, it'll be a very hard sweat inducing game for the boys and will probably be harder than the Quarters draw.

Plus, Leverkusen are the easiest team that is possible for us to get. All I have to say,MOYES 9-2 Leverkusen or should I say PSG 6-1 Leverkusen, the same PSG we beat next round. As I said about German Clubs before, bar Munich & maybe Dortmund, teams like Schalke & Leverkusen are Europa league fodder, that are allowed to compete in the UCL because of the success of Munich & a freak season by Dortmund.

Guess when you said Basel were the first team to beat Mourinho at the Bridge, you meant the first home defeat last season, right?

They beat us twice because (1) we weren't even in any kind of form when we played them at home and (2) the defeat at Basel was, partly, due to Mourinho's negative approach. Couldn't believe how insipid and negative we were that night - we had Ramires on the RW for goodness sake! Made Basel look like Barcelona.

Yes, I know Basel are a bogey side for English teams and they have a good squad but think people are being overly paranoid and overestimating them. Of the English teams to have played them in recent years, we have the best record against them.

No offence but that's rather ignorant if you are just judging a team based on results.

OK, here is another question. What if, the final was between Roma vs Everton for example and Roma get top 2 in their league in the same season which is direct qualification for CL and if Roma win the EL, will Everton as runner ups be given the champions league spot?

From my understanding, no. Instead, it will benefit another team from another association/country based on the UEFA country coefficients.

JOSE:

On Monday the draw for the knockout stages of the Champions League takes place, and he explained who he would like us to be paired with

‘We don’t have much choice, there are only five possibilities, but to make it easy for everybody, I would say Paris Saint-Germain. It’s easy for us to travel, easy for the fans to travel and they won’t have to spend a lot of money to go there. They are a very good team and I would prefer a really good team, which will motivate the boys. So, if I could choose, even though I can’t, I would say Paris.’
