Charly Musonda Jr.

I've watched the last three Real Betis and in each game Charly Musonda has been fantastic, he's naturally gifted and rarely losses possession. A real talent.

He's gone out on loan for 18 months, then has only 2 years left once that deal is up. Given his current performances and room to develop have we made a mistake;

A) Giving him an 18 month loan deal?

B.) Not offering him a new contract before he was loaned out?

Interested to know others opinion.

If he keeps impressing, he will have a role in the team. Ask Courtois!
2 years is still a long time, and we can extend his contract while all this time (plus the 18 months) are ongoing.

A very good point in fairness, I just feel like his lack of game time at CFC *which has been publicly heard* it worries me that we would be crazy enough to accept a bid for him. Time will tell I guess.

He's loaned out for 6 months iirc..

Betis wants him for another 12 months if they stay in la Liga.

Initial 6 months yes, but Betis can keep him for next season if they want to, but I do believe that requires consent from Chelsea.

How the hell did he not play a single game for us....not even in league cup. Mourinho's "10-minute trials" are the biggest joke in world football.

It's weird how John Swift got game time under Mourinho but Musonda didn't. Not knocking the former but Musonda is better.

Yeah that makes no sense whatsoever. And the only academy product integrated to the first team, Loftus-Cheek, got chances solely because of his physical attributes.

Mourinho is like job recruiters in the 21st century. You need to a Master's Degree and 10 years of work experience at the age on 20.

I'm aware I may get a bad reception for saying this, I love Mourinho but now he's gone at least next season we may see more of the youngsters we've been so desperate to see but Mourinho refused.

I can see why Hiddink isn't playing because he's only here till the end of the season, he want's instant success now.

This may be true of course but I don't think it is. My own view is the youngsters are not getting games because they don't deserve to.

Some evidence of the reason for this difference of opinion between us comes in our assessments of Charlay's displays so far at Betis. I did not see the Gijon game but I saw the performance against Depor and I watched an all touches video of his debut vs Valencia. You feel that he has been fantastic but my respective ratings of those two outings are; OK, for a debut and very ordinary. There is perhaps no point in arguing whose assessment is right since we have both seen what we've seen, and think what we think. It is though some sort of explanation of why we see the bigger picture so differently.

I don't think I watch any less academy football than many around here and suspect that in fact I watch more than most. Even so, I don't share the general clamour that the kids must play. My call is that our kids must get better.

There were times when Charly didn't even get into the side for development squad games, or was subbed when he did. What is more those decisions seemed to me to be justifiable. We must guard against getting carried away. It's not about looking good, it's about being productive.

There is a great deal more I'd like to say about this, and notice I wrote that I thought those decisions were justifiable not that they were correct. To unfold my argument on this however would take a very long post and, though I've been wanting to say it for years, I find that I can never be bothered to get into it. One day maybe. :)
