Ferreira: The Coach?

I think that Paulo is a legend.

Not only is he a loyal servant to the club, and always given 110% for the cause, but he is extremely popular in the dressing room.

He is a smart man and is normally the one called upon to help the Portuguese speaking players settle into the team.

He never complains, however as his chances are limited, what do you think about giving him a coaching role?

Maybe at the end of this season, or even now. I dont think he wants to leave and I dont think Chelsea want him to leave.

Any thoughts?

I agree with every word.

I have no doubt he's good enough to be a coach for us.

His skills as a defender with us were often underrated by most fans it would seem.

I'm sure he'd improve the game of up-and-coming right-backs or new arrivals.

Also, as mentioned, he's a very good translator.

Would love for him to take up a coaching role.

Well said. Great person to have around. Reliable and does his job properly when being called upon onto the pitch. Off it, he's useful to help other players, not just the new ones to settle in(as you pointed out) but also the senior ones at times. Wouldn't be a crazy call to say he deserves a testimonial match.

No need, he's already a coach basically. Just keep giving him a new contract. He's a great guy and fantastic around the club. He's basically the perfect squad player.

How much is he on though? He signed his current deal in 2008, and he must've been earning 60k or so back then. So it's ridiculous to keep him here on his current wages imo. Coaches earn way less than that!

but then who's going to be our £90k/week translator? I don't think Meireles english is quite up to the task and he's not particularly liked by the Brazilians either.....Hilário? no he's probably also close to leaving and would be ridiculous to pay him £90k/week

i really dont mind he can be nice coach, though he's more of a, been there SEEN that guy. and more importantly coaching is all about communication and it would be hard for any of us to know how he communicates. we all know who the ultimate player/coach will be, JT no doubt about it.

Has been a wonderful servant / or has been Winston Bogarde in disguise.

Let's be honest the guy earns a fortune, but he gets on with the job, never let the team down and (I think) loves the club. Also massively underrated as a player, hell is still prefer him over Boswinga.

Think a coaching role would actually suit him, maybe assistant manager at some point. Not sure he would like management, think he is too quiet for that.

would be a good thing, Paulo has been in our set up for a long time, and whilst he is on the bench most of the time, he has a big influence in the dressing room, and whilst he isn't the greatest right back we have had you cannot question his loyalty and commitment, to play where asked whenever infrequently he is needed. don't think there would be many complaints with it... :)
