lol

next people will start bringing up ManUtd stats once Mata is officially announced.

Unnecessary, Jason... downplaying Mata's assists is impossible and no one here is stupid enough to try that, much less say he's useless offensively.

I can't believe you actually bothered with this... and posted it in Oscar's thread of all places

Also, you do realize 19/52 (36%) is a higher percentage than 4/12 (33%), right?

so, 19/52 isnt a lot? thats prob 19 more than hazard and oscar combined.

In isolation, 19 sounds a lot but overall, not exactly especially when you seem to be suggesting that Mata has assisted more from set pieces than open play.

A statman keeps all statistics, or at least most of it. :P

Bothered? Surely I can at least get myself into a discussion, can't I? ;)

And it's unfair to compare the overall assist count to just one season, especially in percentages where it distorts what happened.

And I welcome it actually, but to bother to get all his assists (from google, from someone else, from your personal stuff) seems a bit too much

As effective as you saying 19 out of 52, lol

How unfair is what you're implying? I'm positive I couldn't actually understand what you meant... explain it in dumb-language, I'm sleepy and I have to leave for an irish pub soon, so that might help keep me awake :P

Actually talking about Mata's assists is unfair (weird since he had a lot lol) but he never had any "super efficient" forward to work with like Silva has with Aguero and co, or Ozil had with Ronaldo.

It's better to look at the chances he created from open play - and they are a fucking lot, only for others to go ahead and continually fuck them up.

Even if he doesn't create as much chances at Man utd, you can bet in the same time frame he will have more assists simply because he's playing with top finishers like RVP, Rooney and Chicarito.

I love how im suggesting he has more set piece assists than open play ones..

Its more like your favorite player is leaving and anything that isnt happy joy joy and praising him is seen in negative light to you.

Compare 19/52 set pieces assists to 4/12 is unfair especially when you put it in percentages to go along with the point of Mata assisting more from set pieces than open play.

Leaving for a pub? Should ask @Stingray to accompany you. :Goober:

 It's precisely like what I said before about people wanting to turn a discussion into this pro-Mata/anti-Oscar thing when it is so bloody unnecessary especially when I didn't even say such thing to begin with.

So it turns out just asking how many open-play assists Mata has contributed means you're downplaying his genius and everything he has done for club. It's almost as if some people have gone over the top regarding Mata's playmaking ability and he isn't the super-duper creative genius they desperately want you to believe. :Goober:

Maybe Oscar should start taking corners to get them numbers up.

Chances created can mean passing the ball to a player who takes a shot from 50 yards.

There is NO WAY Mata or Silva have created 200+ clear goalscoring opportunities. Those numbers are grossly exaggerated and laughable if properly scrutinised.

True but that is 'chances created' which includes the example you mentioned, pass the ball to a player and he scores from 50 yards.

However if we want to talk about 'clear cut chances created', then obviously the numbers will be lower than 200 if one were to analyze each of those chances created.

And that's what needs to be clarified. Are we really supposed to believe Chris Brunt has created 139 goalscoring opportunities?

Erm, why not? He might not be the most glamorous of players but he's one of the key creative players at West Brom and he's their main set piece taker too. And not to mention, that stat was compiled since the start of 11/12 season. Not surprising to reach that amount after 2 1/2 season.

Yeah I think we're going to have to agree to disagree on this one mate.
