Oscar

Barbs! Where ya been? I feel the same way tbh. If we had Jose we probably would have drawn 1-1, but the players seemed up for it today. That could have been becuase they felt like they needed to prove themselves after Thursday, or because they were finally gonna put effort in. I think its the latter. Some players were still shit though Costa missed a chance and Ivanovic couldn't cross. It does frustrate me though that Ivanovic and Oscar, two players Jose put so much faith in, decided to show up today after the shit show they've put on all season. This team is spineless.

He has gotten sooooo many chances. More than any other player. He has a good game here and there and apparently warrants him getting chance after chance after chance. It's annoying.

hi there, honey

I've been busy. Well, let's just hope everything works out for the best. Bad work environment is really difficult to overcome

good run but what does M'Vila actually do there. Oscar is his opponent and he does not even bother to jog there, just casually strots around when he should track Oscar like mad. Sunderland's defending in that situation almost looks intentionally shit. Poor Oscar did not score there but Pantillimon - whilst an average goalie overall - is a monster 1 on 1.

So Oscar had his 1 good game in 10 and people are digging out the KDB comparisons again? It is a funny world.

Thanks for posting this. I pointed this moment out in the post-match thread.

Look at all that space. Unbelievable. Everyone can play football in those conditions. He actually did quite poorly, should've scored.

Sunderland was terrible. The game was a training session.

Yes, but they could easily grow in confidence if our approach was different. When they scored we let them space and it was nervous. I can easily see us drawing or even losing against them if we would allow them get into this match properly. We played very good regardless of the opposition IMO and Oscar was big part of that.

When he plays invisible man I really don't like him but when he plays like this he is one of the most enjoyable player for me. I'm very curious for his next game.

After trailing by three? No way. I know they got some life back in them after scoring but that's normal and that happens whether your Chelsea, Barca or Juventus. Let's not lose our grip on reality after a few terrible months. Full 90 min of domination is extremely rare. Of course this team is still wobbly mentally, I agree with you on that.

It was a good performance and Oscar was fantastic but it was easy so personally I'm not impressed. Watford, Utd and Palace are up next and I'm very interested to see how they'll play against those sides.

I would wait three more games before being certain that players were playing intentionaly bad under Jose and are now alot better without him.

Today it was seen what I havent seen this season, at least not in PL yet (in CL there were good games too), the desire, the speed of play, team work etc. But its only sunderland dont forget that.

Jose wanted them to play a certain way since January of 2015 and they've struggled. Now that he's gone, they can play a different way .So if they start to do better then it wasn't cause they betrayed Jose

No, sorry for confusion. I mean they started with 5 at the back, they could easily prevent us from scoring for 60 minutes then score lucky rebound from corner. Even this Sunderland side has some good players who could be literally welcomed to have some memorable moment of their career if our frustration would grow and their confidence increased.

I've been saying it for the past couple of seasons and it was never gonna happen under José, but I'd love to see Oscar play deeper in midfield. It would allow all four of he, Hazard, Pedro, and Willian to fit in the same XI.

Chelsea scored a corner after 5 min of play. 4 or 5 men at the back won't prevent that from happening. It was an excellent header from Ivanovic. Typical Chelsea goal.

7 min later Pedro plays the ball to Ivanovic on the right flank. He's completely unmarked with plenty of space. Van Aanholt (I think) moves from a tucked in position to the left flank. But he decides not to press him and stays more than a few metres away from him. Again, no one is around him (Sunderland offered a lot of space throughout the game). is He's pretty far away from the box but decides to cross the ball early. Nothing new about this scenario. The cross is poor. Again nothing new. But the ball lands in front of Pedro after a richochet. Close range, he smashes it, goal.

12:14 and you are leading by two goals against a poor team at home. How easy life becomes all of a sudden. They were terrible. Chelsea has been very poor but let's not exaggerate. Games have actually been won this season and even a team in worse form than Chelsea would win a game like that in most cases.

This was of course a game that could've been lost. But heading into the game, a win, draw or loss were all perfectly plausible scenarios. Losing was not the most likely outcome though.

So?! Mikel does that (jogs back) all the time...

I won't take anything for granted and we've indeed played very weak opposition at home. Yet other players did not play as well as Oscar did against the same folks.

Oscar has been so poor lately that I am actually hopeful he was fed up with Jose, because that means he is not as poor as he has been.

Let's not get carried away.

We know Oscar has such games in him, his problem is consistency (or there lack of). Until he does that in consecutive games, I refrain from jumping back on the wagon. Made that mistake when he was cost Mata his role.

People seem to forget that we played Sunderland, not City, Arsenal or even Leicester! And it's also funny that when the players put in a decent performance to win a game under Mourinho this season, people urged others not to get carried away because it's only one game or the opposition was rubbish etc. Now, Mourinho is gone, the players put in ONE decent display against a hopeless side and people think the players are getting back to their best already.
