First decent game in the last 10 games and everyone is doing a party here. LOL.

Last game he was horrible. today he played well like every other player in attack except Hazard that had an OK game.

Everything in here is about TODAY...if he plays well he is great, if he plays bad he is shit... the problem is,,, last season he did nothing for 4 months, did 2 assists in all the league...

This season maybe he will do better... if he continuos playing like he were in the last 7 or 8 games he won't... but maybe he will do better. Anyway it's not good enough for a team that wants to be european Champions.

The same people that was saying he was increadible this season,,, which was a lie... today are doing a party because he scored 2 goals. LOL

Oscar could take a shit on the pitch for all I care, as long as he contribute with goal or assist

Great finishing but I don't know what's up with his passing. It can be as bad as Ramires sometimes.

True. I don't know but it seems to be some weird concentration issue. He seems to doze off at times. It's not as bad as before (previous seasons), but it still creeps into his game from time to time. He should spend more time with his buddy Cesc, who seems incapable of playing poor passes.

Gah Oscar... A bittersweet performance. Sweet, because of his 2 goals, both taken quite well. Bitter because his overall contribution over 90 minutes is still an issue, his passing was bad - & that's an understatement.

He is improving though, but you can see why Mourinho doesn't often use him in the 'big' games.

Stunned to see Oscar leading the MOM voting at time of posting. Even the commentator, whose colleagues usually just blindly assume Oscar is playing at the same level as Eden & Cesc, felt forced to break cover and mention that there was a lot of sloppy passing from Oscar today. And he was right, there was.

I saw @Barbara's post stating that Oscar's pass completion rate was 81% but I'd be interested to see his numbers for attempted key passes, that is his stats with the routine passes removed. My feeling is that his numbers would fall dramatically. I agree of course that no one is going to have high completion rates for such passes; they are challenging, space is limited, time is short, angles are tight and defenders are everywhere. Even so, a difference maker, a player ready to make a full contribution to his side's attacking play, should be succeeding with more of those passes than an average player might. Eden does, Cesc does, Oscar does not. Indeed my impression (not statistically verified I admit) is that Oscar almost always fails with such passes.

I realise that, in writing so forthrightly about this, I'm going to get pegged as disliking Oscar. That really is not how I see myself at all, but I'm sad to say that I virtually never see performances from Oscar which convince me that he is is the right man for the Chelsea job or even any which give me hope that this situation will change.

What exactly is an "attempted key pass"? Doesn't a pass by definition has to be successful in order to be classified as a key pass or not? I mean surely the pass has to reach its target for us to know if the recipient will shoot on goal or not?!

As always, the discussion on here about Oscar is "metaphysical" to me

Here's my humble contribution to the thread, nonetheless: Excellent classy finishes on both of the goals and a great performance overall. My motm because he was our best "presser" which for me is what won us the match so easily and helped us dominate.

It's a fair question and I think I'll wait to see if anyone produces an all touches video of his performance today. If so I'll use it to give examples but failing that I'll come back and attempt a definition we can use as a starting point. I will say however that your definition is far more narrow than the sense in which I mean the phrase.

He had a good game today by scoring two goals and pressing very well but I get what you're saying. It's little things like the through ball to Costa which seemed easy to play but he overhit it and the Swansea keeper easily claimed. His final ball isn't brilliant but what's most annoying is how he is often very sloppy and fails to execute even the simplest of passes. The Newcastle game was another recent example but it wasn't the first. I remember being very frustrated watching him misplace passes left, right and centre in the away games at Liverpool and United. To his credit he is being productive in terms of goals and assists and I guess that's what counts most.

Sanchez 12goals 7assists - 19

Costa. 17goals 2assists - 19

Fabregas 2goals 15assists -17

Aguero. 14goals 1assist. - 15

Austin. 12goals 2assists - 14

Oscar. 6goals 7assists - 13

Loving this oscar. Even when playing poorly he can still score. Something we used to praise Mata for.

That Fabregas number of assist is really not normal.

Told you Oscar, you should have one more goal. Look now, people still have something to complain about.

Even if he beat Shurrle to the 5th goal and scored his hat-trick, his overall contribution would have been poor.

Sanchez and Di Maria two of the biggest imports this summer give the ball away at a far more alarming rate than Oscar does yet no one constantly bleats on about it. Another opening goal this season and 6 goals and 7 assists which combined, is the 6th highest goal contribution in the League behind Aguero, Costa, Cesc, Sanchez and Austin.

Who cares about Sanchez and Di Maria? When you don't watch matches overall it's easy to praise the numbers and what you see on MOTD. They show the best of these players. Oscar is a good player, but his sloppy passing today was alarming. As a number 10 his role is important to the team and he's simply failing to show qualities that justify that. He must concentrate more.

doesn't matter, not good enough for the amazing Chelsea fans on this forum.

Also, he linked up and pre-assisted (as people love to give Eden credit for this) our third goal. He had two more shots that were nearly goals, he linked up with Cesc and Hazard pretty well, he pressed amazingly, but to the hell with all this. They want Hazards in every damned position of the pitch, which makes me sad because it means they don't actually realize how blessed we are for having Hazard because players like him are hard to find. But you know... Oscar sucks. I guess he had been involved directly in 8 goals in the last 9 games he played, but that's not bloody enough for TC members.

I don't give a buck about what they think though

edit: also according to Squawka, shitty Oscar had a 87% pass completion (misplacing an incredible amount of five passes the whole second half) and created one key pass in the second half, but some people insist on saying he was sloppy in the second half. I should stop coming to this thread. I spent a long time avoiding Eden's thread, I think it's now time to avoid this one.

2 goals didn't count as 'contribution'? would people seriously think it will be better to see Oscar 'playing well' rather than scoring or giving assist?

It is like I'm biasing and said Costa overall contribution has been poor, I prefer him to dribble and create chances more than seeing him scoring goals.
