Daniel Sturridge

So if we let Lamps, Cole and Danny go we can only acquire 2 players that are not homegrown? But we really don't need to let Cole and Danny go...just another case of our board creating needless headaches for everyone.

Exactly. Of course, there could be juggling as well (As I suggested with Blackman and Cortouis) but Chelsea are definitely going to have to buy one or two homegrown players.

But the problem is who? Can't see Everton selling Baines. Only possible homegrown signing I can think of atm is Walcott and I really don't want him here.

Yeah, it's an issue. Is Walcott a better bet at success than Sturridge? We could also bring back some of our youngsters like Hutchinson to play the Ferreira role of doing nothing or McEachcran to be our 11th midfielder, but it would basically kill their development. Neither are ready for a regular role at Chelsea and neither would play much at all.

I'd take Sturridge over Walcott any day but for some mysterious reason the club is pushing Danny out..

I can actually see Hutch getting the Ferreira role because I honestly don't see him competing regularly with his injury; he'll get like 5 games a season and continue the coaching position he took when he retired. As for for Josh, it would be completely criminal to not loan him out next season especially consider how well he is doing now.

It depends entirely on who the coach is. If we do get Guardiola in then I'd want Josh to be part of the squad.

As for Sturridge, I don't know if he'll ever be happy simply being a role player at Chelsea. In his time here I simply haven't seen him mature and develop as a team player. Even at West Brom he was taking shots from 25 yards out when he had other options available. When he was given the chance to play up front he got in a couple of good positions but squandered them - I don't know if he can be trusted to be our main striker.

So you have to look at what he offers, what he costs and what he could bring in. A £10 million+ offer from Liverpool would probably be good business.

Since he arrived here he literally had 2 starts(one under AVB against Wigan and this season against manu in the cup) as a CF and he scored in both in addition the few minutes at the end of a couple of games this season. We know that he can finish because he was our top scorer last season and we know his movement is excellent. We need to see him much much more at CF in order to judge if he is good enough to be our main striker.

Maybe he should be given more chances, but I don't personally think he'll ever be the main guy.

Problem with Sturridge is that since he gets so few minutes, he's over eager to impress - and that's why sometimes he'll take the wrong option and shoot.

Interesting statistics, he is probably the most consistent young striker in Europe

Here is his statistics since arriving:

2012/13: 320 minutes - 160 minutes per goal - 23 year old

2011/12: 3061 minutes - 235 minutes per goal - 22 year old

2010/11: 535 minutes - 133 minutes per goal - 21 year old

2009/10: 612 minutes - 122 minutes per goal - 20 year old

Bolton:

2010/11: 976 minutes - 122 minutes per goal

Does anyone actually have an idea when his contract expires? Everyone seems to be guessing at the moment. It's strange because on the chelsea website it states we signed him on a 4 year contract in 2009 and there was no mention of an automatic contract extension. Which begs the question why is there no real urgency to tie him down. January is only round the corner and I am concerned that we lose him for cheap. Some articles suggest his contract expires in 2014 but surely we'd have known if an extra year was added to his original contract, no?

His contract, being a Bosman, has lots of different clauses for City that we're/we've paying/payed off. It's possible that that one of the clauses was for the player, adding a year to his contract - the media appear to be unanimous in that his contract isn't ending in summer. It could be a mistake, but the same also happened for Kalou I believe, who stayed a year longer than he 'should' have at some point
