Don't understand why we'd be constrained by FFP at all, really.

United and City both have higher wage bills than us but aren't showing any concerns about FFP at all. Both will easily spend £100m and likely much more in United's case. We don't need to completely revamp the side like United need to do so we aren't gonna spend £150m or anything like that, but I see no reason why we should spend £100m.

Price may seem a bit steep right now, but we won't be saying that at his testimonial.

The thing is you would pay that money, I would pay that money, but I just can't see Jose dragging himself in a bidding war for Shaw. And €35m and a €6m p/a contract for an 18 yo guy is a lot of money to be honest.

As much as I'd love Chelsea to sign this lad, I just can't see it happening if the reported amounts offered by United are true. Big money there and a vacant spot at LB for Shaw.

Talking about a good LB, I think Ricardo Rodriguez is someone to keep an eye on. I've watched Wolfsburg millions of times and that guy is the real deal. Miles ahead of Shaw. He's been in superb form this season and I won't lie if I say he's the best LB in Bundesliga right now. And his price won't be influenced by being Swiss, or French or whatever.

No thank you. I will stick with that bloke called dave at left back. I heard he's not a bad fullback

Azpi on the left has been solid defensively but doesn't offer much going forward, he needs to play on the right next season where he should be.

You should speak for yourself. he's good enough to me and many others who judge players on merit and don't fall for the hype machine and popularity contest.

I am speaking for myself, he's not good enough. For Villa he's been average at best.

RR is definitely a good alternative but he's not 'miles' ahead of Shaw. Shaw is one of the best fullbacks in the PL already.

Based of what I have seen of him at Chelsea he's been more than good enough for me. we don't need a Roberto carlos or Nilton santos at left back. There's no justification to spend that amount on a full back period. especially if it's a potential buy rather than the finished article. The only left backs that one might consider paying such ridiculous amount for are Alaba and lahm.

It's not really up to him though, Southampton want 30m for him, we're not willing to pay that much but United are.

Have there been anything concrete that says we won't pay 30m for Shaw? Not saying that I agree that he's worth that amount now but wouldn't say it's a foregone conclusion just yet. There are still other factors that need to be taken into consideration.

We will probably have about 40m off club generated money to spend, also factor in the potential departures off Luiz, Ba, Mikel, Torres (please god) aswell as the loanee's we decide to let go permanently, will probably bring us 50 (possibly more kf Barca give us big bucks for Luiz).
Also we have about 10m left over from the Mata/KDB sales, so i reckon we will probably have about a 100m kitty this summer, potentially more if we win CL.

True but then again, is it even worth forking out 30m for a 18-year old LB when others can be got at just 1/3 of that price?

I wouldn't blame him for flocking to the 100k/week deal, I would do it too.

If Shaw continues to play well and develop into a good/great player, then sooner or later, he will get that wages anyway. Also, for some, I believe that there are intangible 'reward' such as joining the club you love/support way better than getting tangible ones like wages and besides, Shaw doesn't seem like a person who always want big wages like some other players.

I understand what you're saying but don't get why just because others don't seem to be complying by the rules, we have to follow their actions as well. We would basically be putting ourselves in a risky position to be punished heavily by the UEFA if we bust the bank and spend like nobody's business. And besides, let's not forget that City and PSG are currently under investigation of UEFA and we still do not know yet of their decision. Perhaps, that will tell us then how serious is this FFP being enforced.

Rodriguez has been one of the best players in bundesliga. I like Shaw too but he is more than one step behind RR right now. That is not to say that Shaw won't end up better, but right now there is quite a difference.

What about Coentrao?

Good assist tonight, looked good every time I have watched him, especially at Euro 2012.

it was Jose who bought him at Madrid as well, so there's that bonus of them already knowing each other.

Big game experience and probably wouldn't cost anywhere near as much as Shaw. He's been linked with exits for the past year

He should be our main target for the reported 12-15M price !
