Shaw agrees £160,000-a-week Manchester United deal

Wayne Veysey, has the latest on Luke Shaw as the Southampton FC youngster agrees a mammoth £160,000-per-week contract with Manchester United! #‎MUFC #‎saintsfc http://bit.ly/Su7gUU

The Red Devils trumped Chelsea in the race for the Southampton and England left-back after offering a five-year contract worth an astonishing £40 million overall

I just cannot believe that is true - £160k week, with Rooney on £300k and Rapist on £250k they are spending shit loads!

They still have around £400 million of debts...?

This is gonna kill Yernited - they are done as a power in football - they let Rooney bully them and are now reaping what they sowed...

Shaw is not going to get them into CL alone

And if they have to pay £160k week for him, how much are they offering other players? #madness (if true)

LOL - how are they gonna slate us now? Buying Success? They are buying alright - but I don't see much success... ;)

Said this before, but now Ferguson's left.. it's all going to shit. United once had the strictest wage structure of all the top european clubs, minus Rooney. If this 160kpw deal goes through, it's solid proof Ferguson has very little influence anymore. Awful news for United fans, the idea of him being a puppet was a positive tbh..

That's fucking ridiculous. A 19 year old LB who's never played for a big club or against the very best European teams, or played significant international football is going to be on more money then some big time, world class players in all likelihood. On top of a nearly £30m transfer fee.

300K a week Wayne Rooney is the benchmark here.

Nah, he's not a reference, players don't look to him when negotiating wages with United (not under Fergie anyway), he's the anomaly for a reason..

Rooney is, after all, the most marketable english footballer off all time next to Beckham, hence why we were desperate for him.

Because of marketing?

Or because he would fit our system well?

Cause if it's all about marketing then I see why Torres is still around....

Nike told Torres to fuck off, same for a lot of the other sponsorship deals he had, and does Torres really represent Spain like Neymar does for Brazil?. Rooney is still the pin up boy for English football both domestically and worldwide. Just imagine the message it would have sent out if we had signed him the minute Ferguson left; commercial wet dream!..

Stating the obvious but United are idiots if they are seriously paying Shaw 160k p/w, never mind the ridiculous amount of 100k already for a 19 y/o. Ed Woodward seriously needs to be sacked!

On the other hand, guess that shows where Shaw's loyalty lies...

Would you turn down a ridiculous contract like that if it was offered to you? People like to talk about how he would eventually get that kind of money anyway once he becomes truly world class but what if he never makes it? What if he just turns out to be a promising two season wonder who never develops further than that, or what if he gets a career changing injury that means he will never get the chance to be offered that kind of money again if he now turns it down?

£160k a week for five years amounts to a total of £42m over the length of the contract no matter happens with his development and any 19-year-old would be very stupid to snub that be it from any team in the world, especially a traditional huge club like Manchester United who play in the best league in the world and have the potential to be challenging for the title again in a year or two.

Anyway, I'm having a really hard time believing United would actually pay him that kind of money. If he got £160k a week now, how much would he demand when the club would be willing to extend his contract? £250k a week?
