But it's hardly the end of the world. People are so eager to see us sign him is mainly because he's a Chelsea fan. Not that he isn't a good player but the excitement around this seems to stem more from that fact.

He is also english and for 18yrs old very good player.

I dont mind if he is chelsea fan (that is just bonus as he will be more loyal and happy to play for us)

If we can sign him and let him play on at Southampton until he is 19 or 20 then very well but still they will demand a lot of money... Paying something 10 million for him and loan him back for a year and a half would be good but they probably won't even accept that.

We need to sign him in January, even if he stays with Southampton until next season...

Don't think that's possible. Southampton are playing really well and will want to finish the season high up the table. There's no way they'll want to make a drastic change midway through the season.

Have you actually bothered to read the rest of my one line post?

But 30m for a full back does look pretty steep..

30 is too much, but if people expect him to go for cheap, they are wrong. He might not be as popular yet, but he is regular player in PL, english, 18yrs old and has 5yrs contract at Soton. I doubt he will go under 20mio...

for an uncapped teenage fullback it is just ridiculous

It is indeed but whether those rumours are true or not, I can understand if Southampton took that stance. He is only 18, played a bagful of PL games and has been very impressive and looks better and better every time you see him. They would not sell him on the cheap when in a few years his price is obviously going to increase and he probably will be one of the best LB in the business. Southampton are not in financial trouble as well so anyone who wants to snap up Shaw will have to pay big for him. You don't get much 18 year old's playing week in, week out on a regular basis and impressing. Quite rare, especially in the PL.

i would've given 30m for Maldini in his prime. But then again, we are so desperate for a LB that we actually play at RB there draining out the attacking intent from that flank.

I'm sure they'll budge for 23-25m if we include a loan deal.

the asking price of 30M for Spur may not be true, but even though the true price wouldn't be too far away from it. then what a top LB player will cost in PL? 30M? 40M? I bet none of those players will be worth more than 40M from a club such as Southamputon unless Shaw moves to the winger positon and plays as briliantly as Bale. To be honest, Shaw has quality and potential but it is almost impossible for him to be as good as Bale, nor as Ashley Cole. Even if a young Ashley Cole was in Southamputon and asked to leave for Chelsea, I dare to say that the final transfer fee won't be over 40M. Hence, is it really so neccessary to buy him when he is still raw and green with a huge cost of nearly 30M? I would rather see the club willing to pay extra 10 or 15 Mil to get the "developed and top-class" Shaw at the age of 22 instead of buying a 18-year old boy of bright future but of great cost.

I would've thought the price would be closer to £20 million and if he continues to improve then that's probably about right. You're looking at over a decade of stability at that position, a home-grown player and the fact that he's a Chelsea lad is always nice. I don't know a single Chelsea supporter who wouldn't want a core of young English talent at the heart of the team and left-back is an area where we aren't especially strong looking to the future (compared to the right where we have Azpi, Kalas, Kane, Wallace and Aina).

Would love to tie this transfer up but it won't be easy.
