Luke Shaw

Well Gibbs plays there pretty much week in and week out and doesn't get raved about on here. Personally I think that's because he's not that good.

Whilst I love Bertrand, he's simply not kicked on and if we're being honest he didn't look as good when he was 17 as Shaw does now. The kid just has a composure that you don't often see in players that age, and especially not in the Premier League.

Yup but one good season doesn't make a 'summer'... The lad has potential - but so many players fail to live up to expectation... I'd keep monitoring him, I don't think he's that much better than Bertrand at the moment - but if he improves considerably, then we have an option to buy him... Signing him now and 'stalling' his development wont help us or him...

As for loaning him out - great... We're going to have no 'player loyality' at all soon... with all of our 'future' prospects playing at other clubs... Something needs to be resolved around this and soon...

I don't know if he's that much better than Bertrand right now, but he's about 6 years younger and shows a composure on the ball that Ryan has simply never had. I'd personally bring him in this summer and let him learn from Ashley, and they'd get about 30-odd games a season each.

Plus he's a Chelsea fan which is always nice.

well now that we've signed Ash on a year long deal, doubt anything will happen till next year.

and our chief scout Piet de Visser is very impressed by Van Aanholt , so can see Bertrand and Van Aanholt challenging for the LB position after next season. Shaw is great but think the board has other positions prioritized.

From where did you get this? I am glad if it's true, I would like to give him and bertrand chance...

He also looks very strong for a 17 year old.

nah not really, rather average for his age, boys begin to develop their physique at 16/17. But footballers tend to become weaker and weaker these days, maybe they make him look bigger.

But physically he is still great for a 17 year old, e.g. he is faster than Azpilicueta, who is 6 years older.

Maybe because he doesn't play LB week in week out.

How are you guys judging Bertrand when he's never been given a CONSISTENT amount of game time at LB at us? This is a problem we have, that we never give our youth products a chance. Bertrand has had some very good performances at LB like when he was given Motm against Arsenal last season and the fact he has to play at LW often doesn't help. I'm not saying we shouldn't get Shaw as it would be good to have him and Bertrand competing when Ash leaves, but some of the comments about Bertrand on this thread are totally unjustified

People are stupid, Betrand will be more then good enough in time. End of story, between him and van arnholt we'll have LB covered for years.

As one of the 'stupid' people, can you honestly say in the games you watched Bertrand and PVA play when they were 17 that they had the composure and confidence that Shaw has right now? Because I like both of those guys, but they simply didn't. When it comes to tactical positioning they're not even close which is slightly worrying.

Now I'd like to see Bertrand given a run in the team but if this kid is available for £5 million as the press have suggested, then it's a very tempting proposition. I've heard good things about PVA this season but both these guys have a problem now that Ashley has signed a new contract. You're talking about another year before they can really fight for his spot, at which point Bertrand will be 25.

You say that Bertrand will be 'good enough'. When did Chelsea start settling for 'good enough'?

Yup 5million is a steal for AC suitor....

I did think Shaw would be the next England LB...

But I've been wrong so many times with 'Youth' - I dunno - if I say he's shit he'll be world class :)

I still think 5 mil is a good punt :)

He's got great potential and has had a really strong start to the season, so why would Southampton want to sell? Why would he want to come and sit on the bench for us as third choice LB?

I know he's a Chelsea fan, but he'd only be hindering his own development if he came here imo. I don't think he's shown enough yet to warrant a move to a top side yet, either. Probably best for him to stay there (if they stay up) for a couple of years, then make the move. He'll probably sign a new contract soon, I imagine - I doubt it'll take much to convince him to stay.

Besides, i'm hoping the club give PvA a chance here, always been a fan of him.
