But he still changed the time overnight, something AVB could not do and should have done when he came here instead of putting trust on these players, the same players that got Carlo sack!

Drogba wouldn't be an awful choice, he virtually managed the team from the bench during the latter months of Carlo's reign. He has a massive personality and brings his will to bear through sheer determination, and has the unrelenting respect and liking of the squad. But I'm not convinced as to his tactical and coaching abilities, although he seems to be a fine motivator and leader. Lampard is a bit of an unproven in both departments.

In any case the board would have to be raving mad to give the job to either of them.

I wasn't expecting an analysis,just meant in a humorous way as both have had a history of getting rid of managers and acting as one themselves.Both of them will realize how tough it really is to be a manager, that is if they choose to follow that kind of profession.AVB went through hell and deserved to be more respected by players like Lampard and Drogba.Its a shame that he got sacked.

The only people the thought AVB was going to come in and change things over night are obviously the board and glory hunters who know nothing about the club. It was never going to happen, and it most likely won't happen again next season unless we spend a whole lot of money.

No shit mate. It does not take a rocket scientist to see we need change in the squad.... But it's not as easy as saying lets just go blow cash on heaps of players. There are other things to look at....

I agree. As Shearer said yesterday on BBC, there will be no shortage of people wanting the job. And if, as the media are reporting, Roman still believes in 'the project', there will be funds available for new players.

Player power still rules at Chelsea

Andre Villas-Boas's sacking from Chelsea at the weekend is another victory for player power at the club.

While the results were poor for the Portuguese coach — he had both the lowest win percentage and points-per-game average of any Chelsea manager since Roman Abramovich bought the club — he was brought in with the long-term objective of making significant changes at Stamford Bridge.

He was meant to not only oversee a transition from an ageing squad into a more youthful one but also to change the whole culture of the club, from the formation and style on the pitch to the way things operated off it.

Such things take time, a commodity rarely afforded to the man in the Chelsea hot seat. Villas-Boas was no different, despite his supposed forward-thinking brief.

He would occasionally put some of the more senior players on the bench, and that immediately got them upset.

A big fuss was made every time Frank Lampard was not in the starting line-up but he has played in 23 of Chelsea's 27 league games so far this season, starting 20 of those. In fact, if you look at the team sheets for Chelsea's most disappointing results under Villas-Boas, Lampard started many of those games.

But he and the other established stars at the club seem to be beyond reproach. It is always the manager who carries the can as far as Abramovich is concerned.

The players who had brought the trophies to the club over the past decade obviously got nervous at the thought of their positions being threatened, but you cannot stop the march of time. Every footballer, even the greatest ones, has to accept that eventually they have to start winding their involvement down.

If you look at players such as Ryan Giggs or Jamie Carragher, the reason they still have a place in the clubs they have served so well over the years is because they have made peace with the fact they no longer have an automatic place in the team, despite previous successes in which they were instrumental. They are happy to play whatever part their manager sees fit for them, and are ready to do so at all times. You cannot say the same for many of the current Chelsea squad.

For there to be so much player power at a club the size of Chelsea is, quite frankly, a disgrace. I have never seen anything like it before. I suppose it is a symptom of the age, with salaries so much greater than they were and egos to match.

Finding the right man to manage that below him and contend with such an impatient employer above him is very difficult. They say that managing England is the impossible job, but being in charge of Chelsea must run it a close second.

With Chelsea seemingly going backwards and them no longer enjoying the same financial advantage over their rivals as they used to, it is a genuine concern that they will not hit the heights of a few years ago again any time soon.

The club needs a whole new ethos, cemented from top to bottom, if it is going to recover from this and meet the high standards set during the early years of the Abramovich era. However, that will take time, something that it is hard to see any manager getting at Chelsea.

The new manager has to deal with all this. No one else can but Mourinho.

Jose's return will be a favourable in the short run but what will happen after a few years when SAF finally decides to retire?Will Jose consider the role at United?I think he definitely will and may leave us for them.Its better if we look at other alternatives.

Mourinho loves Mourino and Mourinho only, he doesn't give a shit about any specific football club he just wants to win trophies to boost his EGO. We need a manager who will stay at this club and build a culture like Alex Ferguson has at united. Alex Ferguson has been at united that long he just knows when players like Andy Cole, David Beckham, Dwight Yorke are finished. He signed Ashley Young in the summer and now he has 3 of the best crossers of the ball in the league, which perfectly fits the united way of playing the game, get the ball out wide and whip it in. Arsene Wenger has a culture at Arsenal and Pep has a culture at Barca, Chelsea and Real madrid have no culture whatsoever and you know why ???? BECAUSE WE CAN'T KEEP A MANAGER FOR LONGER THEN A FEW MONTHS.

Ive been against a Jose return for years im usually against second coming's but this time we have no choice.

Bielsa is just too huge a risk, he is in a similar boat Scolari was when he got appointed for us, Capello would just prolong Lampard and co's career's likewise Redknapp, Benitez would leave us midtable and with a squad full of flops. Guardiola apparently suffers at times with the stress of managing and that's with one of the best team's ever, appointing him will be too big a risk he will try and do the same thing's AVB did too soon, highline, tika taka and with these players it will just never happen.

If we are going to look long term Bielsa or Pep would be a good appointment but there's no point, this club just won't accept and average season or two even if it is for the greater good.

We can rule Bentiez and Capello out. Both are unattached at the moment so if they figured in the club's thinking at all, they would have been here already.

Appointing RDM means they have someone in mind and will go hammer and tongs after him in the summer.
