Ruben Loftus-Cheek vs Aston Villa (Home) 17/10/2015 HD

IMO Ruben Loftus-Cheek was having a good performance yesterday. I don't understand why Jose sent him to the bench.

For me His best position is as pure midfielder, not N.10, but he needs to accumulate minutes in our first team and maybe N.10 position is best for him to acquire more experience.

If I'm honest I would not change Paul Pogba instead of Ruben Loftus-Cheek under any circumstances. RLC is an extraordinary player and he can become one of the best players in the world in a short time.

Hopefully Jose decided to bet heavily on him because RLC is ready. In fact, he should be in our starting eleven from now until the end of the season. I Do not see any reason to do not bet on him.

Baba needed more protection on the left hence Matic coming on.

RLC had been ok and it could have been another player but Mourinho wanted to get the job done and close the game down. Experience counts here

He is ready... For one half?? Another Mou joke this season. It looks like he started him only because he said so in front of the journalists. I'm sure Mou massively boosted his confidence after taking him off, leading at half time, against the worst team in the league.

The Chelsea boss said: “He is brilliant with the ball. He doesn’t look 19 – he looks solid, stable and mature.

“But without the ball he doesn’t look as good tactically. I wanted more stability defensively".

I agree with Jose here. In my eyes RLC was a defensive liability, his lack of work rate is a concern. Too often I caught him casually walking around when there were gaping holes in midfield that needed covering and he could have jogged to those areas, shown some more determination, but he didn't. Matic made us more solid. RLC can expect more game time once we stop being afraid of relegation teams, which could take a while.

I found his runs through midfield pretty special when he played for the Youths

Those runs are so hard to pull of at top level though. How often do you see that?

I really miss a stand out quality in his game. Great dribbler, passer or shooter? FK or set-piece specialist? Goal-scorer or assist-provider? Exceptional pace? Huge physical presence?

A jack of all trades is a dangerous prospect.

Not exactly top level but he showed a few great runs vs Maccabi and vs Walsall. When he feels comfortable he'll do them more often would be my guess. In general, his game so far has been safer than during those 2 games mentioned before so I'm not worried; he's still adapting to the pace of the PL (which then again is a rather weird thing to say considering our lulling approach this season).

muller is one. and for me, he is one of the best players in the world. people talk about messi, CR and then talk about hazard, neymar, suarez, bale, sanchez. sorry, but i would take muller ahead of all of them in my team (obviously except for messi and CR).

Muller is a great goal-scorer and assist-provider (and a deceptively good crosser) though. His positional sense is also among the best in the game. And he's big game player as well. Never a jack of all trades imo.

It will be interesting to see how RLC develops. He has an impressive physique so that's something he can work with. And I want to see how he'll refine his technique.

goal-scorer,

assist provider,

good crosser,

good passer,

good dribbler,

good pace,

brilliant work rate

brilliant movement

brilliant understanding of the game.

for me, he is the epitome of jack of all trades.

he can as easily play LW/RW as LM/RM as CAM as ST.

Muller for me is certainly a jack of all trades. He does not necessarily have an outstanding attribute but he has all of them which makes him a superb player.

He is a huge presence , and his driving runs , we caught glimpses of them vs lisbon and villa. I imagine he will be very good at interceptions too.

We have a different understanding of the term jack of all trades then. With a jack of all trades I meant a player that is decent in a lot of areas but fails to stand out in any, and because of that is nothing more than a decent or good player. Think Oscar.

Muller for me is certainly a jack of all trades. He does not necessarily have an outstanding attribute but he has all of them which makes him a superb player.

I find his positioning, anticipation, vision (the amount of times I've seen him pick out a player in a great position with a pass or cross in the blink of an eye), general decision-making and versatility all to be exceptional. He also has a great engine and is a fantastic finisher as well. His overall technique isn't outstanding but tactically and mentally he's absolutely brilliant.

I guess that's fair. Hasn't really been the case in first team football but that's an area he could make great strides in.

Sometimes he reminds me off Oscar; only more physically gifted and lazier on the defence. I honestly have no idea what type of player RLC is. He isn't a box-to-box midfielder or a defensive midfielder, he is too lazy. On the other hand he doesn't player look like a typical attacking midfielder but he does have quite good technical ability.

I need to see more of him, he obviously has the talent, he just needs to play consistently in one position. Maybe the closest comparison is Yaya Toure. Muscular and athletic with sublime technical ability. Also both are little lazy and are versatile but excel when they are able to do what they want.

I guess I'm puzzled.

I can see the yaya comparison. Except the one thing yaya has that makes him a cut above the rest is his ball-striking. He's a good finisher and when he finds space, he can certainly crack them.

Still young. If he ends up making that change in his game I certainly would not complain if we found our own Yaya in the team.

Toure is also a quality passer and dictates the tempo of the game. RLC still needs to improve on this side of the game.

Lesser version of Pogba if you ask me.

  • 3 weeks later...

Scored a great solo goal today for the U21s.

But honestly, I can't even enjoy that goal because it kills me that Jose has pushed him back to the youth teams. Throw Cesc and Oscar to the reserves and give Ruben the run of games you promised!
