He needs to be "rested" for a few games.

i dont think there should be quotes for rested. he should actually be RESTED. has played 90 minutes in every match for us except for the maribor double header. has played 90 minutes for england in all their matches. the guy actually needs a rest.

No he needs to be dropped because he's been pretty terrible of late. While he may well be tired and needs a rest that doesn't completely excuse his current form because some of the mistakes he's made, especially when it comes to decision making, have absolutely nothing to do with fatigue.

actually fatigue (specially mental fatigue), forces a person into poor decision making, be it in life or sports. for eg - i remember GC going into a tackle at newcastle near about the half line and missing the slide tackle against newcastle. i honestly dont remember GC ever doing that. if anything, he leaves tackling an opponent to the last minute and keeps backing off.

he actually seems tired and should be properly rested. i really hope we dont see him partnering zouma against derby.

Remember when he first joined people were comparing him to Terry in his prime?

Even now Terry is much better.

You are being nice to Cahill.

Terry is a world class defender who should always be the very first pick for England.

Cahill is a good dependable player and that pretty much all he's ever going to be. Nothing wrong with that btw.

Jesus Christ. Talk about overreaction. He has had a recent spell of inconsistent performances but we kept a clean sheet. He conceced one free kick today and made one sideward header. Was he poor? Clean sheet, won majority of his tussles and we still get his critics trying to bash him. I really don't understand. I thought our defence was solid. It is funny how people think he is playing poor but he continues to be a regular fixture in this team. Azpi was rotated and Luis came in. We don't see Cahill getting dropped. It seems like me and @didierforever are the only Cahill supporters on this forum. And of course Jose Mourinho. I get some of the constructive criticism but the level I am seeing at is way OTT imo.

If it was so bad, Cahill would have been dropped. And before anyone says we don't have any adequate cover. Zouma has done very well when he has came in and Ivanovic could play at CB and Mourinho knows he can count on him there. If Mourinho thought that he was playing as bad as you lot are making out he would have been dropped.

Mourinho provided his thoughts on the bookings for Gary Cahill and Willian, given for simulation

‘I didn’t see it on TV because I was far away but I don’t believe Cahill dived. If you tell me I’m wrong, and he dived, then something happened. They blocked his run, there was a touch or he lost his balance, but that big, honest guy, I don’t believe he dived in the opposition box.

‘With Willian, why would he dive on the midfield line? If he wants to dive he would dive in the box. Last year he had a red card from Mr Foy and after we realised it was not even a touch on [Fabian] Delph, so I don’t think it’s a big deal.’

While that is true, a lot of people were also saying, from the start, that he's an above average defender, but nothing more. Some are saying that the criticism of him is knee-jerk or an overreaction, but that's simply not true. Even during last season, there were plenty of people, even on here like The Skipper, Robguima, myself...etc. who always maintained that, yes, he's having a magnificent season and has deserved his place in the start XI, but he will always be a limited player and moving forward, quality wise, he should not be more than an excellent squad player at this level.

He needs to be dropped ASAP because unfortunately he became a walking liability.

Will we wait until he really compromises a result to admit that? He was terrible today, should have been sent off twice - and I'll be honest, I said on my Twitter feed (because I had problems accessing the forum today during the match) that I wish he was sent off when he received the yellow (come on, that was a straight red any day of the week). If he gets a straight red with a tackle like that, he misses 5 matches in a row and sorry if I think that would be an early Christmas gift.

I don't remember exactly the context, but in addition to the stupid dive and the terrible tackle, when the game was still 1x0 early in the match, he almost created the best chance for Hull in the entire match. I wish I could recollect exactly what he's done, but it was ridiculous. Then later on he misplaced a pass and that it almost gave them yet another attack chance. The only reason we didn't concede was because Hull sucks big balls.

And people saying the old 'knee jerk' reaction or even using the stupid argument that we've been winning, should wake up. So far we've been lucky that his mistakes - which happen religiously EVERY FRIGGING MATCH didn't cost us anything (except you know, three points against Newcastle and most of the goals we've conceded in the last two months). Just because others - normally JT, Azpi or Courtois - fix his messes or the opponents players don't capitalize the gifts he keeps giving, it doesn't mean he hasn't been a liability. Come on, it's as clear as light.

Zouma isn't anywhere near the end product, he isn't that great (yet), but he's definitely in better form than Cahill and I wish he was sent off today. We would have won the match anyway despite looking terrible (we're lucky Hull's routine is looking even worse than we did for once).

I love Cahill, but after witnessing yesterday game, I agree he should be replaced by Ivan or Zouma. Just to send the right message, if you're playing not good, your place is not secure anymore. Jose did that to Schurrle, I don“t see a reason why he couldn't do it to Cahill.
