GhanaBoy 104
Y cant he play like this every match. Was really solid barely made any mistakeslets be honest cordozo is a player that suits gary's traits ( big, tall and works more in the air than on the floor) as such it was easier for him to deal with. great block but still fourth choice cb as it stands for me. Joe Cool 388
Cahill's last ditch tackling has always been top class. It's his game sense and positioning that he really needs to work on. Hopefully it improves with a bit more experience.

Strike 7,492
The Benfica game played to Cahill's strength. Cardozo is not very fast and Cahill can handle Cardozo's strength. Also, the pattern of play where Chelsea sat deep suits Cahill's defensive game. He is much more vulnerable when there is a lot of space behind him for attackers to run into. He is a good 3rd-4th choice CB but Ivanovic providing cover for RB, Luiz playing in midfield and Terry's injury has seen that among our defenders, he has played the most number of games at CB. I hope this doesn't happen again. Cahill is a good backup but that's about it GhanaBoy and Tomo
Mceachran 109
I still thought he was our poorest defender last night tbh, save his last ditch challenge. Many times you don't need to perform last ditch tackles if you just use proper positioning and awareness in the first place. NishC300 1,865
Cahill is the best header assister! He's a head playmaker. (Modern football)(This thread seems quiet)

CHOULO19 24,332
Was outstanding today, fair play.Jose's defensive system really plays to his strengths. In a deep back four, Gary really is a great CB.
lucio 5,418
Poor all round from cahill. I'm sick and tired of his mediocrity. Not chelsea quality
mtowle182 79
when will he learn that it is not a good idea to back off of attackers when they're in your box, especially in your goddamn box ffs Tomo and Bosnian Blue
Jase 43,479
Honestly, I have hardly ever see Cahill breaking up attacks, proactively putting his foot in like Luiz does sometimes. He only knows how to be reactive, backs off attackers and then only throwing himself to block shots! It gets even worse when he plays with Ivanovic and/or Terry in defence. All 3 passive defenders equal to recipe for disaster! :banghead: Mceachran, Strike and Despiadado.Maleante
Gilvorak 3,734
Should be our 4th choice defender. Very good backup nothing more. Tomo
hjperdeath 2,226
Needs to get rid of this weird habit of backing up. Putting your body on the line is like the first thing that comes in his mind. Brave but unnecessary.
didierforever 7,349
oh dear!!! i simply cant understand how a CB in cahill's position could have been backing away from marcelo at that position. very poor. Bosnian Blue
NishC300 1,865
I don't think Cahill's as bad as ppl here r saying. He just needs to realise there is a time and place to back off and block. Sure sometimes like against Milan it can be gr8 but he had to put his foot in for the Marcelo goal. nyikolajevics and Bosnian Blue
Leif 6,006
So Cahill - Terry doesn't work for us. We know that now. Cahill - Ivanovic has never worked. Cahill - Luiz hasn't been tried much but it's safe to say that very few of us would feel safe going into games with that being our duo. (See a trend?)Yet despite this, Cahill continues to get votes of confidence and comments (or excuses made for him) like "HES A GOOD SQUAD PLAYER!! SQUAD-DEPTH IS WHAT WINS TITLES!!!!!!!" (Barcelona and Bayern pre-Guardiola say hi.)I'm putting this down to his nationality. Being English and being in the national team has swayed people's opinion on him from what I gather. If Cahill was South American he'd get triple the bashing Luiz gets. Probably rightly so based on performances. For me this should be his last season with us. He's good at putting the ball in the back of the net but too often he lets the opposition do exactly that to us. Didn't he do this same thing with Adebayor or Toure recently? both? So many times... nadavTKL
