It's weird thinking he may be a plucky underdog type manager given he was the total opposite as a player but still. Hard to be an underdog type of a player when you are the best midfielder of your generation. He was a plucky type in his west ham days tho. The palace job might be a decent opportunity. After all he started the rebuild with us and did very well integrating younger players. CP are in a similar positon. the difference is that he will neer be that much in the spotlight and under pressure no matter who they buy. Even if they make a couple of 30,40m signings and only just avoid relegation he will not get fired solely for that. There's no point in being the underdog if he can't get the players to buy into his methods. Palace will no doubt look to get younger players in but their squad will primarily still consist of old, experienced players. Can Lampard get them to move away from the pragmatic style to a more open, expansive style? Can those old, experienced players play the way he wants to? If Lampard is not careful, he could easily run into the same problems that Scolari and AVB ran into here. They tried to change the style but it wasn't successful because the players in the squad then were already so used to playing in a certain way and couldn't change to a different style. ZAPHOD2319 4,818
If Frank cannot adjust his gameplay to the abilities of his players, he has no business being a top level manager. I hope his reflection with his time here makes it so he is more in contact with struggling players.

A list of players who have their contracts up at the end of the season: Cahill McArthur McCarthy Hennessey Sakho Benteke van Aanholt Henderson Townsend Dann Kelly Clyne Ward Wickham Schlupp Some will still obviously re-sign but releasing even most of them will free up massive space in their wage budget and they can get rid of older injury-ridden players who are still on big wages. Everything in their re-build depends on whether they have the money to actually buy new players or if they're stuck hoping to strike gold with other clubs' leftover free agents and loan players. Speaking of loan players, if Frank goes to Palace I wouldn't mind sending Gallagher there next season. Obviously not, but from the 15 names on the list if they release even half it will free up a ton of wages. For example they have Sakho, Kelly, Clyne, Dann, McCarthy, McArthur and Wickham who reportedly earn a total of around £450K/wk and have started around 60 games between them in the league so averaging less than ten games each. While some of them have been regulars in the past they are not considered valuable squad members anymore but they still take up a big chunk of their wage budget that could be spent a lot better on some more important players. Also seeing as he's scored a total of two league goals this season they're unfortunately not going to take up their option to keep Batshuayi so that's another £90K/wk freed up for Palace. And while Christian Benteke, their highest paid player after Zaha, has had a sort of resurgence to form after years of being a total waste of space (6 league goals in last three seasons before this one) I wouldn't exactly be willing to re-sign him on those sort of wages again if I was calling the shots at Palace so there goes another £120K//wk. The ones I could see Palace trying to keep are Ward, Van Aanholt, Schlupp and Townsend. Perhaps Cahill too for experience alone if they're otherwise going for a younger and more inexperienced squad. That's still around £700K/wk saved on their wage bill if they release the rest so they should have plenty of resources available for a squad re-build, that's assuming their finances are not totally screwed over COVID. Milan 17,956
Contract expiring or not, the players should give their absolute everything for Roy Hodgson in the last match. I don't even know who they play but they must sweat blood for him. 😇😇

OneMoSalah 8,886
Whoever takes over at Palace will have a huge job on. Look how many folk are out of contract. They wont resign absolutely everybody. Some need to go. Plus whats the budget gonna be? Steve Parish wont be giving anyone a fuck tonne to spend on 6,7 or 8 very good new players to beef up a thin squad. Be a dangerous job for someone with 18 months experience as a football manager in the top flight. Good luck if he takes it but brave as well. According to The Athletic, Van Aanholt will be leaving Palace this summer. Sakho, Hennessey, McCarthy and Wickham expected to follow suit as well. Batshuayi will definitely return to us. Cahill has been offered a new one-year deal while Ward and Dann have held talks over deals on reduced terms. Benteke's and Townsend's future still up in the air. Not sure about the others. 50 minutes ago, Tomo said: They have actually got a unique situation with so many players contracts running out at big wages, it will be a chance for Frank to bring in a few of 'his' type of player. That is true but how many players will he be able to bring in? How much say will he get in the transfers? Given the rebuilding job at hand, won't be surprised if Palace opt for a more experienced head than Lampard. Am sure it's not lost on Palace what happened with Lampard this summer when he got new players into the squad. Last thing they would want is the De Boer nightmare again.
