happy_juan 64
I think the new way to play will be like a Bayern the last years . Specially the last year and now. Bayern have Schweinsteiger and Javi Martinez playing in the central midfield while we have Obi Mikel and Ramires. Talk about being realistic. didierforever 7,349
the MOB is so fickle. last year he was our god, our messiah, our go-to man. we could not even fathom starting a match without him. goals against united, arsenal, tottenham, 2 assists in europa league final. 20 odd goals, 30 odd assists and suddently he has become "NOT GOOD ENOUGH"!!!.and now i read, not in the world best top50 players... what a fucking joke. and what is going to be even more disgraceful is that, when he actually adapts, settles in and shows his class, these same classless people who are critisizing him, will be seen worshipping this guy. ps - make mata play in RM, behind the likes of a prolific goal scorer like CR and we ll see how many assists can he have compared to ozil, who by the way ran out of a team like RM to join arsenal just because he felt his place was threatened instead of fighting it. atleast mata has the balls to fight for his place in the team. The Skipper 20,609
Kaka today is no one. He is a retired player. Mourinho has nothing to do with the bad moment of Kaka.Real Madrid paid 70M for a player that couldn't play two games in a row, and they paid to him 10M per season. Kaka and Milan robbed Real Madrid, that's the reality.About Mata, if he can't play like Mourinho wants he will go to other team. You can see that Chelsea has a problem when a player like Mata is considered our best player. Mata is not between the best 40 or 50 players in the world.Name them. TorontoChelsea

But still thinking one is better than the other is subjective. Now the top50 list is a bit wild. I mean I guess I could name 10, maybe 12 players I consider better than him (in all positions), maybe a little bit more (or less) but 50 so many people... I mean there are what 7,8 really top teams in Europe now (and that alone is sort of a stretch, an exaggeration). Those teams have some great players, but rarely one of them have 3 extraordinary players. Even listing them like that, some of those guys while top players aren't better than Mata imo... so I'm certain he'd be in my top 20, maybe probably top 15 or 12. But I won't even bother making such a list. Still the 50 thing is a bit far-fetched, even if it's a subjective thing.

I don't think Mata is ever gonna walk. His Oscar-esque performance at Swindon is ample proof in that matter. He just have to work on his work rate and this whole Mata v. Oscar situation could be good for both players.

Oscar is playing full confidence at the minute, don't be surprised if people change their thoughts as soon as he loses form. The fact that some are seeing Torres as our new savior now that he's played a few decent games or Hazard being labeled a flop shows how fickle football fans are. It's as if they completely forgot our previous season, it's ridiculous. It's so bad, that even one great or awful game will change peoples' opinions about a players' overall quality. Look at Schurrle after the Bayern game and then after his next start.Of course, this is a massive problem when you start out with unrealistic expectations anyway. If you think Kevin Deb Bruyne is one of the best players in the world, that Van Ginkel is an elite player, or that Chalobah or any of our youth players are good enough to start for Chelsea, you're going to be disappointed and forced to re-adjust your evaluation very quickly which leads to overadjustment. De Bruyne is not one of the best players in the world, but having a bad run of games doesn't make him useless either. I think Oscar will do well in the #10 spot overall if he stays there all year, he's a very good player, he just lacks the offensive genius that Mata has. (There's a term we use in hockey, "playing with your head down/up" and it's something you notice. Mata, even before he receives the ball, knows sees the play developing and has his head up, looking for teammates. That's something that is a rare skill in football.) So wait, "knowing he was going to be a good player (no such thing in reality, plenty of players look good before going to a top league and fail)"=better than Mata? Barca and Spurs and top teams are interested=better than a PFA team of the year/our best player for 2 years? That's absolute nonsense. You're bringing in two things which have nothing to do with what I'm talking about. Oscar is a good player, nobody is disputing that (I hope) but he's going to need to be a lot better to reach the level of Mata. The fact that he was a good player in Brazil or that other teams were interested in him has no bearing on anything. The Skipper

Their a reason why both Barca and United were interested in Oscar long before Chelsea and Tottenham were fighting for his signature. I agree, and bought him under the radar too. As good as mata is, oscar for me is clearly the better footballer in what is a team sport. Mata can never match the kind of performance oscar gave against juventus even if he score a double hatrick in one game. Hazard who i also rate more than mata will only be at that level if he performs at this level as he did at lille(already did vs bayern). Oscar is putting more consistent high level performance this season. He is really competitive. So you see oscar's performance vs Juve and hazard's vs bayern were incredible we've seen nothing of such from mata at the highest level. All oscar and hazard need to be better than mata is mere consistency, oscar seems to have found that so far and hazard will surely find he's under Mou and mata might still be excellent but not up to their level. Steve Nash is viewed as an uber pg, but when he was on the lakers or mavericks, he was average/good, you know why?????Cause the offense in phoenix was built so he could put up amazing stats... Same situation with Mata, (even though I don't think mata is anywhere near as good as nash is in each respective sport)..
Korea 734
I remember reading how in Brazil people thought Ganso was going to be their CAM for the next +10 years and than Oscar took his place as well.... Maybe the brazilians would know better, but from what I remembered, they also reacted the same when Oscar took Ganso' place, saying he wasn't as creative as Ganso, etc...
