Igi26 346
AVB is using older players because he trust them more. Older players are generally less under pressure when underperforming. You can rotate with youth if you are playing like Barca or Real, their league is not so competitive as EPL. Just my opinion.
BlueLion. 21,491
It will be very hard for them because the reserve league isn't competitive at all.In my honest opinion, the problem doesn't lie only below the first team, but also in the first team. Against the Wolves, we had a bench full of youth, though there's only McEachran who has been given ten miserable minutes of playing time. Against Portsmouth, no one of our youngsters did manage to start the game, and don't tell me this isn't because they aren't competitive, because Bertrand has at least 150 professional games under his belt, and Lukaku played 98 games in Belgium and scoring 41 goals, he has also already played in UCL (even scored against Ajax) and he is already playing for his National Team. So if he (André) isn't able to play young players who have already played a lots of professional games, I don't know how he could possibly play kids who are rotting in a non-competitive league that the reserve is...Exactly. We have a manager who doesn't have the bottle to play the kids... yet. AVB is taking his time with this transition, and that is to his credit. I don't really like him that much but he definitely is going about this the right way. There will be a time to look to the youth, but right now we have to remain competitive with what we have, and he is going about it the right way by playing experienced starting elevens. teignman 441
Yesterday the Chelsea manager said of Hansen: "He doesn't have the privilege that I have, to work with these players every day. If everybody had perfect games media pundits would have no jobs because there'd be no one to criticise. They'd have to find jobs in professional football, which is a little bit harder."Now that you've tasted AVB's mutton Alan, how do you like it? BlueLion. 21,491
Haha he certainly takes no prisoners! That is one element of Mourinho's style he has definitely replicated.Just gone back reading some of my posts last night, not quite sure what I was on. Definitely fully behind AVB and I know he probably has the hardest job of all managers in the league at present... I think it is just the sentiment I have towards the players which is making me dislike him slightly. Like I said though, fully behind him, but he definitely needs to brighten up in press conferences! Henrique 9,133
Its frustrating to see how AVB really cant do anything when things are not that good in the second half. This has nothing to do with "bad squad". When we need a tactic master we dont have one.

Later on they kept attacking and it is not down to AVB's bad tactic that we failed to score on counters. The defense he put out is the best what we have at the moment. It could be the best defenders in the world and the mistakes would still be there. You must be insulting your own inteligence when you say Essien brought us back to the game, because Sunderland had two huge chances to equalize in final minutes, and not to metion it was Essien for Lampard, while Meireles was still there. Its getting ridículous, even when the tactics and subs are a mess, someone appear praising everything he did, as I said, you dont need to go that far to show that you support the manager. OneMoSalah 8,886
AVB didn't make the right subs in my opinion, Essien should of came on but for Meireles. We were pushing for a second goal so why wasn't Sturridge or even Lukaku put on? How is Lukaku even going to get better if he is rotting on our bench? Bringing Malouda on as well.. for like 10 minutes is pointless or even bringing him on full stop is pointless.I'm always going to support the manager of this club but he didn't make the right tactical changes in my opinion

I'll tell you again, rewatch the game and you'll notice that when Essien entered the game he got us back on track. When you are only 1 goal up and the game is coming to an end, there's no way you can stop the opposition team attacking you like crazy. I wouldn't have subbed Lampard but I'm not AVB...Our win would've been much easier against PL giants Sunderland if that idiot Dowd gave us at least 1 penalty.
