Tomo 21,751
AVB said we wont be signing Cahill then and then said after Cahill we wont sign anyone and is now saying we are looking at 2 players, interesting.Aswell as RDM saying we are happy with the squad.Either there doing it delibratetly to confuse the media, keeping their cards close to their chest or keep changing their mind. Term-X 7,891
AVB: "It's always difficult (in January) to sign players, top talent is normally cup-tied in the Champions League and other competitions."Excuses, excuses..Clearly the club have no intention of replicating last seasons January transfer window. So what if a ‘top talent’ is cup-tied?, that shouldn’t be a factor. Especially when securing a CL place come the end of the season is of the highest priority. Based on our current performance situation that is, which will remain to be the case with the current crop.
eldo 868
I think he doesn't want to overpay. We could probably get Modric for 40m, but Andre won't sign him for that much.
Term-X 7,891
^ You do realise Spurs rejected a £40m bid in the final hours, so yes.. the club were prepared to pay that much.

We will sign a CB (Cahill -> Luiz in Jan) and an attacking player (Torres in Jan). The big difference hopefully being the club having learned not to overpay - which is probably why we won't go after top-quality (read: famous. If we paid 50 for Torres, then now clubs will ask 1 billion for anybody able to score once in a while). Being cup-tied is the least of problems. CHOULO19 24,332
Hopefully we can bring in a playmaker... but I still think we need a winger, right back and maybe another forward but oh well.It is almost impossible to make that number of signings in Jan. In the current market, a single transfer takes more than a whole month, sometimes draging on from one window to another. The Cahil deal has obviously started well before Jan and is likely not be over for another week or so.We will be lucky to complete two (good) signings in the current window. Fernando 6,585
AVB just had a press conference in Scotland. He talked about signings once again, and said after a Central defender, we will look to bring in just 1 more player. He said this was because lots of top talents will be cup-tied, not many teams want to sell in January, and you have to overpay in the winter window... which is what we want to avoid doing.AVB said we wont be signing Cahill then and then said after Cahill we wont sign anyone and is now saying we are looking at 2 players, interesting.Aswell as RDM saying we are happy with the squad.Either there doing it delibratetly to confuse the media, keeping their cards close to their chest or keep changing their mind. You guys are looking into this too much.Any blind men will tell you that this squad needs to rejuvenate.Just that not many managers want to laid it out publicly that their squad is not good enough....something I hear Mancini do a lot, and it's his style. But coaches like AVB, SAF, Carlo, Wenger and such shy away from that.I am confident in what AVB is planning, he showed me his talent in picking out Mata and Romeu. This squad is good enough to finish 3 or 4, but winning a tittle would be hard.So no need to panick over dropping out of the top 4. Kostas 1,468
Clearly the club have no intention of replicating last seasons January transfer window. Can you blame them? The same fans who hailed last January as a huge statement of intent in hindsight slaughter the club as if the owner bought toys for himself. Only 6 points dropped, a treble and numerous records broken. There he had the right players to work with his style, every one toed together as one and the results were near enough a given before kick off.As soon as the well fed "superstars" are gone and players that suit AVB's style are in what's to say he can't do exactly the same with us? If he took over City in the summer i reckon they would have (as good as) won the league already.

If he took over City in the summer i reckon they would have (as good as) won the league already. The PL is more competetive now than the Portuguese league . Indeed it is tougher here now than when Jose arrived . I do believeAVB is the right person to take us over. We were expecting the transition to be painless and easy . That is our fault and some of the players.
