If there was ever a game that Bertrand could show he was capable of doing a shift at LB at the expense of Cole, this was it. Was superb. Was excellent in defence and done ever so well going forward. His work rate was phenomenal and made Myiachi look average. Like I said before, he is not a weak link for us and takes his chances when he gets them. Hope he can get more minutes.

He's a player now, mature and calm on the ball and very aggressive and objective off it. Great game tonight.

Excellent addition to the squad- so much more than another "flair" player, from his off the ball work rate, to his tracking back. A very astute acquisition.

While it was great to see Azpi playing tonight, seeing him taking the place at LB must have probably felt like a blow to Bertrand especially after his good performance against Cardiff.

I was focused on him a lot the entire match and the run he made for the goal was probably the 20th that type of run he made. He can be as effective without the ball as he is with it. He is different from all our other AMs, and he will only carve out a larger and larger role as the year goes on. He's still young, he can become an excellent player, a key player for us.
Like someone said before, we should try him on the LW and Hazard on the RW a few times. Hazard was very good last year at RW as well, plus Schurrle doesn't really need to link up too much to be effective so no help from Cole won't hurt him as much as it does Hazard. Whereas on the right, Ivanovic and Cesar go forward a lot better than Cole which will help Hazard.

Imagine having Sturridge and Lukaku with our current squad. We'd be blowing teams away.

Schurrle is on the wings what Ramires is in the middle. Players who work their asses off throughout the game, quick and whom you would expect to make key contributions on both ends of the pitch.
I only wish that Schurrle was as good at finishing as Ramires is, then he would be a world-class player.

I personally believe that the squad would work better with one AM less, but if I had a free pick of one to remove, it would not be Schurrle.

Clearly not ready for chelsea, scoring as a striker, how dares he. He has to take that aspect out of his game to make a chance for a starting spot as our striker.

He's brilliant at set-pieces, but that goes without saying considering his size.
It's in open-play where we suffer. He's perfect at RB when we're doing a backs-to-the-wall defensive effort against the likes of Barca/Bayern, but when we dominate play and need better combination play + more guile on the flanks then he's simply not good enough. I'm not singling him out because I've said the same about Ashley. Our wing-play is poor because our fullbacks aren't particularly good technically and clever on the ball. You look around the top European clubs and their fullbacks are brilliant, technically gifted players. Ashley and Ivan are excellent defenders but they provide very little going forward.

He worked his fucking arse of today for the team, he was immense defensively and the little times he could contribute offensively, his run and the cut back for Torres' goal (although it took a wee nick) was brilliant, Hazard's run and pass was also excellent. Guy is a workhorse, and like Luiz, also has so much passion and positivity around him.
