  1. I could see him being a Liverpool signing and returning to the heights he saw previously. He'd be a Mané or Lallana type signing where he isn't coveted by the biggest sides and won't go for mega money but turns out to be very effective.
  2. Think he'd be a great signing for any of the top teams. If not here, I hope it's not Liverpool or Spuds. Can see him being an annoyingly great signing for either of them.
  3. You're definitely right that we've got it horribly wrong often times over the past few years in the market. A few gems but also many busts. No coincidence that the players like Cesc, Costa, Kante etc that the managers have specifically asked for have worked out great and then the ones you've named there which were clearly board signings haven't really kicked a ball for us. Like we've all said here recently, let us pray that they've learned their lesson and know they have to give Conte the players he wants. No cheaping out on average players. Conte showed that he'll leave a club if he feels he isn't getting what he deserves.
  4. Sterling and Stones were both "potentially" top players.
  5. So he's going from one big club that he'll never get a game for to another where he'll be very lucky to get any? Good luck, mate...
  6. This is my thinking, too, and why I won't start panicking any time soon. Conte will obviously have a list of players he wants already in the hands of our board. The problem and concern is that many of the players we want are also top targets for our direct rivals who can offer more money. It seems like City want their business done ASAP. Let's hope we do the same.
  7. If all of these signings happen City will have an unbelievable team. How on Earth they'll manage to keep all of those attacking players happy is puzzling. They'll have a top class player in every position on the pitch and about £100m+ worth of depth on the bench at any given time. We better have some crazy good business lined up because the two Manchester clubs will be buying multiple world class players. Will we even be shopping in the same bracket? Or are we buying solid, but not top players?
  8. Must admit that I haven't seen him since before his injury but he was fantastic then.
  9. Saw those rumors too but I find it hard to believe that he'd turn down a big PL club offering him a star role. Unless Milan are offering him insane money, I don't see why any top player would go there at this time.
  10. Costa + Morata or Lukaku + Morata for me. A battering ram partnered with an elegant, technically great striker. Morata can surely be signed relatively easily unlike Sanchez or Griezmann and Lukaku is probably desperate to come back. Whatever happens we'll be fine. If there's one position our club is always willing to spend big on its striker. It's the other positions I'm anxious about.
  11. Don't see how hey could possibly play together unless one of them is completely out of position. Just makes no sense to have two pure #9's.
  12. The rumors of him going have really died down over the past few months so it would be an absolute gut punch if he left now. I think he'll be offered an enormous pay raise. Deserves it, course. Can become a Chelsea legend if he stays for another 5 years.
  13. I'd happily see him stay if we also brought in another 15-20 goal scoring attacking player. If not an out and out striker then a hybrid forward like Alexis or Morata.
  14. £20m We can send them a signed pair of his boots for that.
  15. I agree. I hope next season we have the personnel ourselves to boss possession and dominate even the bigger sides. It's kind of annoying how we allow sides like Arse/Spuds/City/Liverpool etc have possession and we counter attack.
  16. He'll be Mou's new Willian. Would be a good signing for United.
  17. This is why I wish Roman would do what United & City are doing/have done recently where if the manager absolutely must have a particular player they just pay whatever it takes to sign them. Mou wanted Pogba, boom £90m. Pep wanted Stones, KDB, Sterling, boom £50m each. Bernardo Silva, boom another £50m. Just go to PSG and offer £70-80m for Verratti and make them say no or at least test the player himself. He's Italian, we have an Italian manager who knows him well, and he's made statements recently that he may want to leave there at some point. This is the sort of business we need to be doing. Proven, world class quality and not potential. We have a ridiculous amount of money available supposedly. We can't have multiple games next season where an opponent can neutralize our entire team by simply marking Hazard out of the game or make our entire team cease to function by controlling the midfield.
  18. After having time to relax and think about that game now there are a few things that left a bad taste in my mouth after such a fantastic season. Firstly the midfield. It's kind of scary how against several of the big sides this season Kante has been made to look very average. Against Spuds, United, Arsenal, and Liverpool he performed far below what we expect of him. Doesn't really bode well if we go against actual elite sides, does it? Games where you have to be very good technically. Then there's the defense. Cahill is obviously being groomed as the JT captain replacement which makes me wonder if the club will even be in the market for a new, world class CB. Will Conte and the board just bench him after he captained us and started just about every game in a title winning season? Knowing us, they probably think we're all set in the CB position with Ake and Zouma. Then we get to the wingback positions where I feel Alonso & Moses are perfectly fine against about 80% of the PL but against the top sides and in the CL I think both have huge weaknesses. Alonso is so slow that opponents can easily blow right by him. Moses is just naive and positionally rash. We NEED doe th and quality there. I guess I'm just very concerned and nervous about whether the club see what we see. After the last two summers where the manager didn't get what he wanted and what we needed, I have to see change to believe it. Until I see a couple signings I'll remain cautious.
  19. If he stays then we need to get someone who can play off him rather than another #9 like Lukaku. Morata or Alexis. Both of whom seem impossible at this point in time. Honestly have no clue who we bring in for our attack.
  20. He's always going to struggle against sides that move the ball quickly and harass him. He's almost completely incapable of playing the ball quickly as well. Needs like two or three touches to make his mind up which is infuriating. If he is a starter next season it has to be in a 3 man midfield rather than 2. He gets rings passed around him against teams like Arsenal, City, Liverpool who play quickly.
  21. He's good enough against most PL teams when we can dominate the play and he's good enough to play through the group stage of the CL probably, but there's no way we can compete with any of the big boys with both he and Kante together. Too slow, lacks awareness, and very limited technically.
  22. Played out of his skin at times this season and he deserved the praise he got. But there are times when you can tell he's not wired as a defender. The positions he takes up, the speed (or lack thereof) with which he reads situations, and his decisions in the final third are all poor. Hes a very good option to have in a big squad that'll be in so many competitions next season but he isn't good enough to start every game. We need an upgrade.
  23. It's easy to overreact to a final defeat and say we need so many new players, especially after winning the league, but I don't think it's unfair to say we need about 4-5 new, top class signings for our first XI. Both wingbacks, a midfielder, a CB upgrade for Cahill, and another world class forward. Work better be happening already and signings made quickly because there will be insane competition for a lot of the same players if we wait too long. We won the league and certainly deserved to but we aren't close to being at the level of Europe's elite yet. Too many average players.
  24. The two goal line clears ces aside, Cahill has looked like a pub player. Terrible football brain.
  25. That should be Moses' last game for us as a nailed on starter.
