Why do some Americanisms irritate people?

Let's see...I was mad because my take-out smelled like a used diaper. My friend told me to chill, but I was flipping out from the bathroom aromas. He then told me to get my s*** together because I was making a scene. I eventually decided to take a load off at the bar. While there, I noticed a very hot woman. My friend noticed her and said, "Good luck with that." I decided to buy her a drink, but the line was ten feet long and I had no cash on me. You do the math. -
Where is the Telegraph on the media respectability scale? Is it closer to BBC or Bloody Rupert? This oversight error makes me think it's toward the ladder.

Downing for 20 million, Carroll for 35 million...nice to see jingoism alive and well in English football.

Everyone going English\British

Obviously, England will win the 2014 WC because of this talent... *lobs grenade into enormous ant hill and runs for his life* -
With Essien out, you think Mikel will flourish?
Blue In Green replied to a topic in Matthew Harding Stand
Mikel has been playing on the first team consistently since the days of The Special One. At this point, I think he is what he is. Should he be a starter? That's debatable, but I doubt he makes any more significant leaps. -
Didn't Jose try to wedge Pizzaro into his lineups? He and Shevchenko were not compatible with Drogba in any way. Anelka was a highly-rated journeyman that produced. Torres may prove to be worth every penny paid for him, but he simply hasn't done it yet. I'd still take Drogba because flashier names have come in and withered. As for Roman, I doubt Carlo co-signed to picking up Torres and the Shevchenko signing was mainly the work of Roman and Peter Kenyon. I just think they should have worked on getting a forward that could compliment Drogba's skills, not a big name for flash and bang. It's a little late now...

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/14130942 Personally, I try to spring British expressions on some of my unsuspecting fellow Yankees from time to time. It's difficult to explain Marmite to them as they are still struggling to understand the concept of Nutella.
-
I meant on the pitch. Drogba led the team in goals on multiple occasions, yet Roman still felt the need to throw piles of cash at supposedly superior forwards. Anelka is the only forward that truly worked with Drogba and he was a bargain by comparison.
-
Roman has never given Drogba the respect he deserved. He tried to pick up blockbuster forwards at every turn (Shevchenko, Pizzaro, Torres...Anelka could be put in this group, but he actually produced) while Drogba quietly led the charge forward without making a scene in front of the media. Drogba is the greatest forward this club has ever had, alongside Peter Osgood. Torres is a frivolous splurge. You know who I'll choose.

Mikel has matured in a big way. There was about a two year period where I swear he picked up a yellow card every time I watched him play. He's cut down on that and dug himself into an important role in midfield. I'd be surprised if he didn't feature in AVB's plans. -
Where I live, it depends on the environs. Residents of rural areas are openly racist. Residents of suburban areas mask it better, but many still have prejudices. It also depends on the skin color - I get the feeling Hispanics would be treated worse than others. As for me, idiots are idiots. They come in all shapes, sizes and colors. Fortunately, good company does too.

Sam Allardyce: Margret Thatcher killed football

Thatcher killed a lot of things, didn't she? -
I didn't read any of that, I just stared at all the pretty colors.

Thank God, I'm not alone. One can squeeze into a CL spot with a good "team" (ask the Gooners), but they're a bunch of middling to solid players. With the exceptions of Reina and perhaps Suarez, there isn't much of substance. Frankly, Liverpool are an older and more limited Arsanal. They won't win anything this year. They might slip into a CL spot, but that would depend on outside factors. I understand the sentiment of the English fans here - they want the kids to emerge as world-class players so the Three Lions can finally meet their expectations. The reality is, they aren't there yet and they may never get there.
-
At least they didn't make the whole thing yellow. First year in awhile where none of the shirts would hurt my eyes while watching a match before sunrise. Loud colors = OUT, preferably forever.
-
Nooo! We're having elections next year, that would distract everyone and we'd be stuck with Michele Bachmann or Rick Perry (if he runs)! Back to the football, which team do you think will surprise by finishing high (6th-8th) in the league? One team does it every year...

Good luck to you and your fellow Egyptians from the USA - apologies for our government's support of Mubarak. Like everyone, we vote for our politicians on domestic issues. I felt embarrassed listening to our politicians speak during the Revolution, they were so out of touch and unwilling to see the truth. Kind of like your former government, huh? I guess we have more in common than at first glance...

Liverpool MAY be fourth at the end of next season. In the PL, you need game changers. Liverpool has Suarez, who has played a grand total of 13 games in the PL. Shut him down, who will step up? An aging Gerrard? This isn't 2006, and picking up British players doesn't guarantee anything, other than rapturous approval from jingoistic fans. Man U, Chelsea (despite the head-to-head results last season), Man City, Spurs and perhaps Arsanal are all better than Liverpool right now, and that doesn't factor in sides like Villa and Everton who struggled with injuries or underachieved last season. I don't believe the hype.
