  1. AVB is putting emphasis on possession out wide. I like this a lot.
  2. Call me a traditionalist, but I don't like canned music at sporting events. Why can't the Bridge patrons give a stirring rendition of "Blue Is The Colour" every time our club takes the pitch at home? We could also nick something from America and have an organist play tunes, like "Here Comes The King":
  3. Accountability in the media? The Murdoch scandal must have scared the crap out of the media outlets in Great Britain.
  4. The CL matches, because everyone knows that's the competition Roman cares about most. Outside of that, I think the Derby della Madonnina will be very interesting. The Scudetto hasn't left Milan in almost a decade, and I don't see anyone taking it away anytime soon.
  5. My country is about to default on its debt, sending the world into another crippling economic downturn.
  6. At least the countryside looks nice...
  7. Whose Line Is It Anyway? and Arrested Development.
  8. Where I live, people stand on a parking lot, barbecue, drink cheap beer and play cornhole before going into Yankeeball stadiums. Is that kind of similar to the pub concept?
  9. That isn't happening on a significant scale here, and that is partially our fault. We aren't making the effort to integrate them into our society, we're standing across from each other yelling "GET THEM (put offensive term towards Latin Americans here) OUTTA HERE!" or "GIVE THEM AMNESTY"! It isn't productive and the problem gets worse by the day.
  10. Yeah, I don't quite get that. Maybe it's bitterness from what happened to their country of birth? Maybe they're just cranky because "we don't do it like in (_____)". Remember, nationalist pride can come from anywhere.
  11. For a lot of the original immigrants, it was a choice of necessity. They had to move here to feed their families or escape violence of some kind. I'm not surprised they don't feel close to America. They'd leave if it were feasible to, but their countries are too fallow for them to make a decent living.
  12. I'm talking about the violence. I know how drugs get into this country, I'm just saying I don't want heads in coolers on this side of the border. It hasn't happened yet, thank goodness. As for the drugs themselves, I'll leave you to your opinions on that.
  13. The problem is, some of them aren't. They grow up in the Latino social constructs separated from the rest of society and end up speaking broken English even though they were born here.
  14. As long as drug violence doesn't slip into our borders, I don't really care how many South and Central Americans cross. If I were in their shoes, I'd certainly try.
  15. I agree, but the process will be extremely difficult. There may be second generation American-born who don't see themselves as American, yet go to American schools, etc. The legal ramifications alone would cause aneurysms. The politicians will never address the problem because it's "controversial" and they don't want to lose votes.
  16. The U.S.-Mexico fan distribution at the Rose Bowl a few weeks back says otherwise. The situation is very similar to the Turks in Germany, ignored for so long that they created their own social constructs. Both sides chose to be separate, so it isn't surprising that some Latinos don't identify themselves as Americans.
  17. Having a black president is a huge step forward, but that woke up seditious right-wing elements that had been dormant for some time. Those of a certain age can remember the era of the "Dixiecrats", when the George Wallaces and Strom Thurmonds gave fiery speeches in front of Confederate flags and when the National Guard had to force certain Southern universities to integrate. The tea party movement would never have started if President Obama had lost the 2008 election. They never exhume President Bush's economic policy, yet they freak out when President Obama does the same things. They tell Latin Americans to go back to their country, yet are unwilling to do the work they do. Fox News and the conservative talk radio windbags are as popular as they are because of their willingness to twist facts, statements and scenarios into shocking, revolting "stories" eagerly digested and spewed by their ignorant rural, racist, sexist, jingoistic Gawd-fearing audience. I live alongside some of them, and the things that come out of their mouths are stunning. It's as if they want to live in 1875.
  18. Don't get the whole "stripes inside stripes" concept, tbh...
  19. In my country, we want our players to go abroad...
  20. None of this even gets into regional sayings. THAT would confuse everyone.
  21. Serbia and the Balkans don't get a lot of attention in the States. When most Yanks think of Europe, they think of the Home Islands or Western Europe. The Balkans seem like a cheaper, less touristy vacation; a sort of hidden gem. I imagine the coast lines are packed this time of year, though. And yes, I'm aware none of this helps the OP. Just thought I'd contribute, even if it's
  22. Cech must be moving on soon. There's no obvious reason to bring in his successor now, he's 29. The only logical reason they could be doing this is if he wants to leave or the club think he is expendable.
