Atlas Lion 1,223
The excuses people make to try and downplay Messi is hilarious. It's like a complete reversal from the people that try to say Torres is back when he finally doesn't concede a turnover. He couldn't perform without Iniesta and Xavi apparently, both have gone off the boil and Messi guess what is still performing.More so that Messi now has to fill in that void due to Iniesta and Xavi's decrease in ability. Now he's playing in a much deeper role than usual, similar to that of Argentina. But Aguero and Suarez have one season where they are matching his numbers, and are all of a sudden close to his level. Bollocks of the highest order. Tomo
iseah100 5,612
Consistency? When the team revolves around you, your stats will be consistent....Its when the team doesnt revolve around you... Messi has had barcelona revolve around him for how many seasons as did cr7... People think that players just override the system because of their consistency, not the fact the system provides players the opportunity to put up consistent stats....Kind of like how lampard was always consistent statistically for Chelsea and sucked balls for england. Can you imagine if cr7 didnt get 10 shots a game like he does for Madrid. Wait, I can.. Its called the world cup where he sucked ballz every tournament.maybe you should keep thinking that Mikel is relevant and good. You're so aggressive, dude.I don't understand your argument? Are players who have teams built around them consistent because of that?

Erm, Aguero was wank for Argentina during the Copa America 2011 and WC 2014. Aguero was playing in Messi's position having Messi playing in a deeper role for Argentina, just to accommodate Aguero. So by your definition, the team was playing around Aguero and he was ungodly inconsistent for the national side. Or did you not bring that up because it didn't fit your agenda? Do I need to remind you what happened when we tried to revolve our team around Torres? And our system never revolved around Lampard. It suited him a lot, yes, but it was never built around him. It was first built around Drogba then around our attacking midfielders. And everyone sucked and still sucks balls for England except for JT. That proves absolutely nothing.Of course it helps to have a system built around you, but all that does is magnify the star player's influence. I'd completely understand your argument if you were talking about Ronaldo, but Messi? Come off it. He's gone through several systems in his time and Barcelona and has always been nothing short of phenomenal. He's never selfish and you never feel that his teammates give him the ball because they just have to like often is the case with Ronaldo. Viper22 2,418
More Ronaldo vs Messi arguments. Who gives a shit about arguing about them? They're all good in their own rights and the constant bickering is tiresome. Anyway, they'll all never be as good as this demi-god: The Rising Sun and didierforever

Team doesn't need to be built around player. If player feels the game he'll find the right spot, he'll know the right movement and what to do.If with that comes skill, speed, pass, dribble... then we can talk about potential world class. But only by watching players in games we can see that things. zolayes and Atlas Lion

It was evident towards the end of his time in Liverpool, in Spain and now in Milan. Juan Mata situation is a perfect example. Juan Mata didnt just become a fringe player over night and didnt become world class all of a sudden. Lampard the team revolved around his strengths and hid his weaknesses. It allowed a so called CM to be the most forward player on a team in EUROPE. CHELSEA never revolved around stat padding DROGBA. Actually the last statement is where I know you dont watch barca. It is evident in catalonia, that everyone needs to pass it to Messi, which includes both suarez and neymar. Which is why catalonias really are considering whether Messi is the best situation for them moving forward with a team that already consists of 2 high powered forwards in the likes of neymar and suarez. Messi is further back now in enriques team, but Messi is still the key for barcelona and everything still revolves around him... Messi is still playing like a false nine whether its argentina or whether its at barca. Just because he plays a little deeper doesnt mean its a totally different position... How come CESC, AGUERO and Sanchez are playing so great now? Why was villa pushed out wide and ZLatan? NEYMAR will take the rein from Messi just like how Messi took it from ronaldinho and the barca will move on like they usually do. Neymar in 9 starts in la liga= 11 goals after coming back from injury in world cup with 0pks, 0 fks.Messi in 13 starts in la liga= 10 goals with pk and fk responsibilities. DavidEU 2,023
Arsenal have an awful record at Stoke. Hopefully that'll continue. And Southampton end there losing streak at home to United. Us winning coupled with one/both of those would be a great weekend. xPetrCechx
