not when the majority of goals were against pub teams!

he had 1 good game against City and scored a lucky free-kick against us! the rest were against pub teams!

Sorry...I made a mistake. Those were Drogba's stats in 2005-06.

Rooney's were 27 apps, 12 goals and 10 assists playing in a second striker role in more games than as a main striker.

Clearly Drogba was in decline.....and there are no pub teams in the Premier League. To suggest there are is at best disrespectful and at worse nonsensical.

Rooney in, Lukaku recalled, Torres out. Sorted up front with Roo/Lukaku/Ba.

We can then use the money saved by not buying Falcao/Cavani and invest in central midfield and defense.

I'd like to see this - simply because Rooney can play out wide or behind the striker if we ask him to. The permutations you can have with that strike force is great. If we can get Rooney for a decent price I'm all in for it - the cons that people have brought up on here really don't outweigh his pros.

People are just scared because of what we've experienced with Torres, which is fair enough, but I think Rooney is a different type of player. I think Rooney would be a beast under Mourinho.

I really don't care about his personal life and the fact that he is a hot head off the pitch as far as he gives it all on the pitch, which he did every time I saw him played.

I don't care he has handed in TR twice neither, if he does that to us in the future he can fuck right off with no hard feelings at least we have benefit from his good service for 3,4 years.

they are pretty much pub teams when they play against united! basically every small team in the PL are scared of united and make things so easy for them! and most of Rooneys goals were scored at Old trafford as well where teams make it even more easier for them! I guarantee if you played the likes of Dempsey or Michu ect in place of Rooney they would have similar stats as Rooney has got at Old Trafford this season.

oh yeah and when it comes to Torres they are all pub teams but when it comes to Rooney there are no pub teams in the PL.

Torres has 7 PL goals in 28 starts whilst playing as the main striker. Rooney has 12, in 22 starts, whilst playing on the left, right, behind the striker and sometimes even at CM. Go figure.

He some issues. Using blanker statements like 'he has an attitude problem' is ridiculous. When he was asked to play in wide roles or deep roles he didn't complain. When someone like Jose says he'd like to coach Rooney specifically because of his mentality, I think you're really barking up the wrong tree.

Ridiculous? Have heard and read many United fans saying the same and it's been fairly obvious to many. And how you know he doesn't complain? He might not have done it in the public for fear of Fergie but even the latter himself said Rooney wants to leave because he is unhappy of being taken off a few times this season, meaning he has complained behind doors. And what about always seem to come back for pre-season looking unfit and struggling early on in the season for the past few years? That's not an attitude problem?!

As for what Mourinho said about Rooney, so just because he said that then we are not allowed to disagree with him?!

Buying any striker is a major risk. The upside is huge, but it's also a gamble. But again I defer to Mourinho's view on him - he's a truly world-class player and if motivated properly, I think he'll lead us to the title next season.

Buying any player is basically a risk BUT when you do that, you basically look at which player(s) can give you the most. You look at their current state, characteristics, potential etc and looking at Rooney right now as well as his form in the past 3 years, it will be a major risk of a move and it may well end up like Torres here. And not to mention, Rooney will command a massive wages here, which would be ridiculous for us to pay him so much!

You were the one that brought Torres into it...

yeah i was making the point that people on here are overrating Rooney with his stats this season, if i say Torres has 21 goals this season you will say yeah he has played like 60 games and almost all his goals were against pub teams, but with Rooney he also has score almost all his goals against 'pub teams' but because its Rooney that doesn't matter apparently.

Fair enough, but I don't think it's fair to directly compare Rooney and Torres' stats simply because Rooney hasn't played as the main striker this season as Torres has.

no he hasnt but its not like he isnt always in and around the box and in positions where he can score, If you completely ignore who Rooney has scored against this season you can say his stats are pretty decent but when you see where his goals have come from you can see its not all that impressive at all.

Top teams

Man City

Chelsea

Average Teams

Fulham

West Ham

Braga

Crap teams

Reading

Norwich

Southampton

Sunderland

Stoke

Not very impressive to me, plus when you factor in how many great performances he has actually put in this season against top teams! it really makes me wonder why people are so desperate for us to sign him!
