Vesper 30,160
Jude Bellingham ‘muttered vile slur’ at Mason Greenwood during match https://metro.co.uk/2024/02/02/jude-bellingham-reported-la-liga-mason-greenwood-slur-20211881/?ico=trending-post-strip_item_1 Getafe have reported Jude Bellingham to La Liga officials after the England midfielder allegedly called Mason Greenwood a ‘rapist’ during their match against Real Madrid on Thursday evening. The incident occurred in Madrid’s 2-0 victory when Bellingham tackled Greenwood close to the touchline. After the ball went out of play, the television camera caught Bellingham saying a two-syllable word towards Greenwood, although the audio did not pick up exactly what the England midfielder said. After the final whistle, Cadena SER reports that Getafe requested to the La Liga delegate at the game that Bellingham’s alleged slur is included in the official match report, which could then open an investigation into the incident. Bellingham, if charged and found guilty by La Liga, could be handed a potential suspension as a result, although it remains unclear if officials will take action. Thursday’s match was the first time Bellingham had faced Greenwood in the Spanish top flight since the Manchester United forward joined Getafe on loan in September. Greenwood moved to Spain in the final hour of the summer transfer window after United held an internal investigation and concluded that the 22-year-old should restart his career elsewhere following his arrest in January 2022 for attempted rape, controlling behaviour and assault. Greenwood had all charges against him dropped last February and United had considered reintegrating him back into the first team before the club received major backlash from supporters over the prospect of his return. It’s understood that United are now open to selling Greenwood in order to raise funds for the summer transfer window. When asked about Bellingham’s alleged slur towards Greenwood, former La Liga referee Iturralde Gonzalez told Spanish radio station Cadena SER: ‘You can be sanctioned if you really say that, but if Getafe wants to defend its player, what it can do is take the case to the Competition Committee. ‘The League will do what it has to do, but they can appear at the Competition Committee with those images and accuse him of what he said.’ Edited February 3, 2024 by Vesper

Vesper 30,160
Barcelona President Joan Laporta furious with Xavi Hernandez https://thedailybriefing.io/i/144720404/barcelona-president-joan-laporta-furious-with-xavi-hernandez It's true that Joan Laporta is furious with Xavi for what he said in the press conference, and his anger is enormous. At the time of writing, Xavi has not received any news from anyone though, and he has no knowledge of them wanting to sack him. We may know more in the coming hours. Laporta still has to speak with Deco too, and we know that Xavi has a contract until 2025. So that's an issue that has to be resolved as well. Given the economic situation at Barcelona, sacking him would not be easy. They will have to find a solution in the coming hours, but it's true Laporta is furious - all the same, he hasn't said anything to Xavi about it. With Rafael Marquez, I can only say that he's always been very highly regarded by the sporting commission, it's a name that everyone in the club likes. We have to wait and see what happens though, but I have no confirmation of any actual movement, as they have to work things out with Xavi first. Vesper 30,160
a rarity going into the last game all of the top 8 slots of La Liga cannot change order in any way 9th is also unlikely to change and the bottom 3 teams cannot escape relegation and their order cannot change unless Almeria beat Cadiz, and thus they put Granada bottom of the table on GD (but Almeria have only won twice all season in the league)
Fulham Broadway 17,311
Three Valencia fans have been sentenced to eight months in prison for hate crimes against Real Madrid’s Vinícius Júnior, in what La Liga described as the first conviction related to racist abuse at a football match in Spain. The ruling goes back to a match in May last year during which several Valencia fans hurled racist slurs at the Brazilian footballer. The match came to a halt for several minutes as Vinícius pointed to a Valencia fan in the stands, telling his teammates that the man had called him a monkey and made the gestures of an ape. robsblubot 3,595
"Many asked me to ignore it, others said that my fight was in vain and that I should just ‘play football.’ But, as I've always said, I am not a victim of racism; I am a racist tormentor. This first criminal conviction in the history of Spain is not for me. It is for all black people. Let other racists be afraid, ashamed, and hide in the shadows. Otherwise, I will be here to demand justice." made a few changes from the google translator results floating around. Amazing player and human being!
