I feel weird listening to Hip Hop being white. How is a white Australian boy from the desert supposed to relate to Illmatic?

Wow that is the complete opposite here in NJ. (im black) but man so many of my white friends here listen to Hip-Hop (mostly main-stream) but thats besides the point .

What i hate is when they advertise it excessively and try and be something i know they are not which can be really annoying at times.

but if all else fails and drastic measures are needed, move to a ghetto and start gang-banging (you already got the drinking part down if i remember correctly :P )

SO in the end your post changes nothing and was quite meaningless to me.

Then you completely missed the point, hence the movie/film reference, you don't need to relate to every aspect of entertainment/art.

Although, having said that, rap lyrics 'on the surface' (ignoring the technical genius of the lyrics themselves) are relatable to almost everyone. Listen to 'good kid, m.A.A.d city' an album arguably even better than Illmatic. Kendrick Lamar touches on everything from moral dilemmas, future prosperity, philosophy to peer pressure.

For starters, I never said that I need to relate to every aspect, did I? Secondly, I never said that I can't relate to it, just that often I have a hard time. I struggle to relate to a lot of Hip Hop like Dr Dre, Snoop Dogg, N.W.A, etc, but that doesn't mean I don't enjoy it. I don't have a hard time relating to Illmatic (I just used it as an example, because I was listening to it at the time), I don't have a hard time relating to good kid, m.A.A.d city and I still enjoy them. I've listened to Lamar's album several times already.

And yes, I do understand what you mean.

A track from Saigon's new album. It's rather good.

This particular track is produced by my friend and he's also the singer on the chorus. He also sings the chorus on one of my tracks (yes, I make music. I'll post something here soon).

Enjoy:

Edit:

Personally, one of my favourite tracks from Saigon. Again produced by my friend; again with my friend on the chorus. (I promise I'm not doing this to promote him. Just love the tracks. )

I've always enjoyed Saigon's music. I think he's a very good story teller and it's a shame he's never quite reached the heights that he could've had he taken his music career a bit more seriously. Never the less though, he's still made some very good music in his time..

Does anyone else on here listen to Chamillionaire?

Not his "Ridin'" stuff, but his more recent sh*t & remixes on his mixtapes etc? Honestly... I truly believe he's one of the most underrated rappers in history.

He can rap & sing. He has punchlines like the best of them. Incredible flow. Everything.

Some personal faves:

• Standing Ovation

• Keep Hatin' 2

• My Life (I actually prefer his chorus on this to the original Game ft. Lil Wayne version)

• When Ya On

• I Think I Love You (Most people think this is about a girl; It's not. It's about money)

• Price Of Failure (He sings the chorus using 50 Cent's "Many Men" structure)

• Won't Let You Down (An anthem for the south)

• Gotta Be The Baddest (This has one of my favourite punchlines from him. A little friendly shot at The Game. "I know this don't sound possible to some of you lames, 'bout to strain your whole brain tryna get her ta change; You gotta name-drop names of every person you came, .. in contact with in your life, that's just terrible game."

Go and enjoy his music. He really is great.

He recently left Universal Records due to creative differences (similar to Lupe Fiasco's situation) so his album "Venom" has been cancelled and he's now working on an album called "Poison".

In the meantime, he's releasing loads of free, great tracks.

Also, his last album which came out a few years ago, "Ultimate Victory", doesn't have a single swear word in the entire album - and none of his future songs will have them either (apparently). I respect that.

Jim Jones feat. Maino - Tryna Win

A few years ago, I was about to sign a contract to officially own this beat for my own use. I'm glad I decided to opt for a different instrumental from another producer. These guys did it justice. I love this track.
