Suggestion on some forum:

A bit radical but what fun that would be. For example, Chelsea and Atletico can play each other for one star player in each other's team. Chelsea win, they get a player of their choosing. If Atletico win, they get to do the same. If Spurs want a player from Benfica, they can challenge them to a match under the same rules. Now I get this is quite impractical but again, we are still allowed to have dreams. I think it'll draw huge crowds.

It's almost like football players are slaves. Just imagine a non-league team challenging Real Madrid for Ronaldo.
