Brazilian heading to England - Benfica midfielder Ramires is expected to complete his €22m move to English Premier League club Chelsea in the near future, according to reports in Portugal.

Lisbon-based Record claims that the transfer of the 23-year-old could be confirmed as early as later today, with the Eagles having agreed to a deal which will see them receive €11m for their half of the player's registration. Benfica sold 50% of Ramires' rights to an investment company earlier this year for €6m. The Libson club retained the option to re-purchase the other half of the player's rights, but according to Record, have decided against keeping the player, particularly given Ramires' desire to move to Stamford Bridge.

The Brazilian was left out of the 4-1 victory over Aston Villa at the Estadio da Luz last night, with coach Jorge Jesus having been made aware that the transfer taking Ramires to Chelsea was imminent.

So this is a done deal?

Not sure about this lad,do we really need him?

I didn't even know him before the World Cup.

big clubs like Chelsea did and do know players before they appear on the largest stages..that`s why they tried to get him before the WC ,why they paid 5 million for Kalas when almost everyone on here had never heard of him..the list of names that could be used for examples of why football scouts are employed to find emerging stars rather than average fans who spend most of their time focusing on the end product, is endless really..

outside of scouts though, i`m sure plenty of football fans (including myself) around the world had heard of Ramires prior to the WC. .Brazil don`t select players from total obscurity for their WC squads..he had just won the Portuguese title with Benfica last season, breaking Porto`s stranglehold on the title..and starred in the Confedirates Cup in 2009.

only concerns i have with Ramires is that we need to sign him directly from Benfica,so they need to buy out the other current part-owners of him before we can do so...

and the fact he`s played pretty constantly for 2 years now and something like 100 games without a proper rest..he is knicknamed the Blue Kenyan due to his stamina..but even so..that is a slight concern for the short term future..he can be eased into our team tho..we don`t have to rush him in due to the relative weakness of our opponents in the first month of the PL season.

Good point but usually big talents get noticed too fast by the papers or the fans,Aguero being a fine example.

Having a "worker" in the team would be great, but from what I've read so far he sounds like a Kuyt type of player, not really exciting if you ask me.

He'll probably be right replacement for Ballack,a slightly faster version of the German.

I guess that's the reason why we're not going for him, because he's priced too high, and his performances might not even match his valuation.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chelsea_F.C.

Check out squad list - it contains a certain Mr. Ramires listed as number 20. I wouldn't take it as anything more than some idiot editing wikipedia though. However I am now edging pretty close to seeing this deal happening and being announced in the next 1-2 days.

Too many rumours from too many different sources and what the Benfica president says really says it all.

CHELSEA EDGE CLOSER TO £18 MILLION RAMIRES SWOOP

Chelsea are today poised to complete the signing of Brazilian World Cup midfielder Ramires - and give Carlo Ancelotti his prime target.

Stamford Bridge boss Ancelotti has earmarked the 23-year-old Benfica star as the key piece in his summer refit project.

And with Benfica President Luis Felipe Vieira finally giving the green light on an £18.3million deal, Ramires is expected to become a Chelsea player in the next 24 hours.

Ancelotti, who has lost Michael Ballack, Juliano Belletti and Joe Cole and so far only recruited £5m Yossi Benayoun, has targeted Ramires since before the World Cup when his absence through suspension was a major contributory factor in Brazil's quarter-final defeat by Holland.

The sticking point was the fact that Benfica had only been able to afford his £5.8m signing from Corinthians by selling a 50 per cent stake in the player to an investment company headed by Iranian-born Kia Joorabchian.

Now, though, the Lisbon side - who stand to make more than £8m despite Joorabchian's cut - are willing to accept Chelsea's improved offer and Vieira said: "We have completed nothing yet and the place where Ramires goes does not entirely depend on us.

"There is a partnership and and we must respect it.

"But our main goal is to continue to build the team and do the right thing in sporting terms.

"If there is a good proposal, we will do everything we can to make it work for us. We are prepared for all eventualities and have options to fill all the positions to ensure we strengthen our base."

Ramires was known as the "Blue Kenyan" during his spell with Brazilian side Corinthians, a tribute to the club's traditional colours and his remarkable endurance and ability to run and run.
