So we need to beat Newcastle next game.

Because I think 5th place will miss CL since in Europa League you have United and spurs. One of them will get CL and the 5th place will get bump out.

We need to finish 4th place then.

This used to be the case. No longer any more. There will be a mandatory 5 teams in the UCL next season and if Spurs or United win the Europa League, then there will defo be 6 teams in the UCL next season.

Its such a shame that we have to beat Newcastle & Forest away to have a shot at making the top 5.

Good win against Liverpool, nice to see Palmer finally get back to scoring, when he hit the post from that tight angle, I thought it wasn't going to be his day!

But where has this team been?! If we could be consistent then wouldn't be in this situation. This wasn't the same side that walked against Ipswich.

Hopefully knowing what we need to do...be bloody annoying to miss out after being so close for so long especially if Man U or Spurs which look likely manage to sneak in with Europa win. Know how it works but even so

I think inconsistency is a thing of a young squad.

Hence next season they should take a step up in performance.

Especially if we get some transfer done right this summer.

I think people underestimate how important it is to have a functioning midfield for a teams overall balance and how good Lavia is. For me, Caicedo just isn't a DM as he is a ball winner/chaser which leaves us wide open for counters down the middle as he is easily drawn out of position.

Now I know I have been beating this drum for a while, but as a team you're never going to control a game with Caicedo as your DM. This equally isn't me saying he is shit, it is just he is a player that needs a free role of tactical discipline as he chases the ball too much and only has a reasonable passing range.

Anyway, in short, we've been missing this since Lavia, and to an extent Fofana got injured.

True but seeing  the effort made.

So many of our games have been just slow passing around then back to Sanchez who panics and we all panic and then kicks it out and repeat. It was nice to see movement and  not looking so shakey.

I hope given the last few games we have we can build on this and not go back to pass backwards bam they've scored...

Matches against Newcastle, Nottingham and Betis will tell us where we really are, Liverpool weren't really at full speed.

Would say that's on Enzo as well.    I don't recall us being that wide open for counters with Gallagher in the middle.

That may be true but he's the only consistent midfielder we have in the squad.   Enzo's had a mixed season and Lavia's barely played.

Would hate to think what our points total would be without Caicedo in the lineup.

You left out United and you can bet they'll be up for a fight against us, especially after their recent Europa form.

True because even City went down fast after midfield was done.

We need to get it right this summer we need to see if Santos can help us sustain that mid with Lavia so injury prone.
