Sanchez is our best shot stopper by a mile and we have defenders who leave their GK in serious situations multiple times per game.

Might be unpopular but honestly think Maresca is right in picking him at the moment, even as shit as his distribution is compared to Jorgs, we would be worse off with him in goal overall in PL imo.

Obviously, scouts/directors should have found us two better goalkeepers than Sanchez+Jorgs (+Kepa+...), but that is another matter. Maresca works with what he's got and when he speaks to the press he speaks positively about players who there is no intention from the scouts to replace, because what the fuck benefit is there in doing otherwise?

Newcastle have a bunch of experienced and quite nasty players. Very happy we managed to hang on with all the calls going in their direction. 

Reece James took on well the words of Maresca about being a leader. Was magnificent and probably my motm. I would love it to beat them at St James on Wednesday, but wont be too mad if we don't. We must take 3 points from Man Utd. It will be super hard as we don't win there and love to help a team in crisis.  COYB!

As always this is a lot of guesswork on my part, but I have a feeling that Maresca has earned more influence with the decision makers than he had initially. I feel sure that the manager and the recruitment team recruitment must know that some major defensive upgrades are required.

Specifically: -

At goalkeeper, Jorgensen must be considered immediately, and a recruit needs to be high priority in the January window.

Decisions about recruiting at centre-back will be influenced I suppose by the club's assessment of Anselmino but, even so, we need to add mature players of character. If we can add one such player, there is no reason this team cannot qualify for the Champions League. Add two and it's a certainty.

A full time left back, who Maresca will trust to start Premier League games when required, must also be on the list. I suppose though that this requires Ben Chilwell's wages to be shifted first.
