Too much of a project for Pep. He'll go to the easiest job with best squad and brightest future. Just like he did with Bayern.

Can't blame him.

Simeone will be the best we can hope for.

You're right that he has a track record of building on strong existing structures at both Barca and Bayern which is why the City job makes absolute sense. Here he'd have to do a complete rebuild.

I also wonder if he'd like working within the structure we have or whether he'd look for something more professional. Just that mention of experiencing a new city makes me wonder, maybe he'd do it?

Why would he come to us? we have no CL football and would need to sign about 10 players (according to reports). I pray we get him but just don't see it happening.

One season out of the CL is not big deal. We may still get a CL spot, if not then a Europa place. If he signed a 3-4 year contract and spent the first season building, then the next 2 seasons aims for CL trophy and the EPL to top off a successful campaign here. People put a lot of emphasis and stress on potentially missing out of CL, but it's for one season! I am sure he would be more than happy to focus on winning the EPL next season if he came, and maybe a domestic trophy. Let's be honest, it has taken him 3 seasons at Bayern and he still hasn't won the CL so how will that be different here? The squad would need rebuilding to compete at that level anyway. I hope you don't expect him to come in and have us challenging for the CL straight away. I dunno whether he will come or not, or whether he would be up for a challenge here - only he can decide what he wants.

We will get Simeone and itll prove to be a better appointment is my bet

Hope not tbh, he is Mourinho mark 2. I would rather we stuck with Guus Hiddink if he has a successful (relative i know, but successful would be challenging for top 4 or 6) season with us.

Amazed that is used as a criticism nowadays. Simeone is a great coach.

I was 95% certain that he was going to City. I'm still hovering around that mark except he said one thing that made me question it.

"I want to experience a new city and I want to work in England"

Nobody says they want to 'experience' Manchester. London on the other hand fits in with the mentality of a guy who took a year off to live in New York. I'd like to think money isn't that big a factor (anyone will give him a big contract) but he did play in the Middle East at the end of his career. But who wouldn't.

I just think the culture of our club doesn't fit with what he wants. On the other hand I don't think anyone else gets us out of this repeating cycle that we'd be in. He's the only coach Roman would back totally and he'd have a blank cheque to build a new squad. Then again City has been purpose-built for him, but would he feel comfortable displacing Pellegrino?

What's clear is that he's Roman's 'white whale' and I don't see us being outbid for his services, and it might spark Roman to make some changes at this club. I'm 5% less certain than I was 30 minutes ago.

You got this right out of my brain. :D

Anyways I did found that quote interesting. And just like you it gives me a little hope he might consider London, so that leaves us and Arsenal.......

Hey. Just because he's done that once doesn't mean he'd do it again. Barcelona's project back when he took over was in no means easy.

Unfaur to to say it's "too much of a project".

He had several of the best players who have ever played football at Barca. Sure he had to get them to play together in a system and all that but with the insane array of talent he had at his disposal it wasn't like it was some colossal task.

I meant that we are too much of a project. It would take at least a couple of transfer windows for him to shape us into a Pep team and even longer to play his style of football. Think we'd need almost an entirely new midfield and defense.

If he is truly looking for a project and the opportunity to build a club in his image then the choice is obvious. I for one think he's toying with us and Utd, he will ultimately go work for the people he knows and trusts in Txiki and Ferran.

The only thing that may swing the pendulum in our favour is London and whether or not his wife has any say in where they want to live. Outside of that we are pretty much never gonna get him... He almost joined in 2013 but the appointment of Rafa salted him on our business practices(who can blame him?)

City don't have a lot of movable pieces so for him to build his own team would require a complete overhaul. Kompany is injury prone and 30 this year, Yaya is 33, Silva 29 but still highly effective. Their main pieces going forward are Sterling, De Bruyne, Aguero, Bony(?)

On paper we look the more appetizing proposition Terry is done. Ivanovic, Cahill, Remy and Falcao don't look to be part of the long term outlook.

Our main pieces are Costa, Willian, Hazard, Zouma, Courtois, Azpilicueta and maybe Matic... are those pieces along with serviceable pieces he's worked with in the past like Pedro and Fab enough to attract him to London? We do have movable pieces as well like Oscar, Ramires, Mikel...

I'm not sure, at this point my money is on the favourite in Man City but we do make for a compelling option even without Europe next year.

If I am not mistaken Wenger's contract expires in 2017. Arsenal's squad also suits to Guardiola's style and if he likes big cities he could take another one year break until Wenger retires in 2017.

Yeah this is true.

Out of all the club in the PL Arsenal seems like the best fit for him.

No one will bother him, no debts and they make good money.

It might be if Wenger decides to step down.

Man we should do what Real Madrid and Man United are doing. Find someone young, maybe has just come out the game, and let him be an assistant to whoever we hire.

Maybe that's what we're going to do with Drogba, perhaps he will be our Zidane or Giggs. We should talk to John Terry also in the contract negotiations, tell him he'll get an extension but in a dual role.

We talk about wanting heart, leaders, people who try and don't fall out with the dressing room? John Terry is that guy. He's probably doing some badges anyway. As long as he stays away from his players' mrs' he'll be okay :D

None of our new school legends have any coaching experience though tbh. The closest one I can think of is Zola.

Yeah, true that.. Drogba would be the closest if he retires and takes up coaching here long-term

JT is probably the best bet for that. Always talked about going into coaching and very analytical apparently.

Similarly, we have some really good ingredients here. We need to add to that. We need a great master chef to put it together. I don't think we're too much of a project for Pep - as I said before, if anything, the fact that he can come here and put his own imprint onto the squad - an imprint the club seems to want to implement - is good. He has a blanker canvas than he'd have at City or United.

I think there's a world of difference between where Barca were when Guardiola took over and where we are right now. They were already 5 years into a new plan and when they won the Champions League in 2006 they had the likes of Puyol, Iniesta, Xavi and Valdes in the squad whilst Messi is emerging as a once in a lifetime talent. Pep took them to that next level but the job we need someone to do goes beyond that.

We need someone to kickstart what happened a few years before Guardiola and I don't think he's it. What he is perfect for is taking Man City to that next level and I think that's just what he'll do.

If we actually want to develop on what we've got then Simeone is probably the man we need.
