they are two different types of players

Veiga is big (15cm taller that Le Fee) 1.85cm physical CMF who can drift forward and score from a more advanced role, plus drop back into a pivot

Le Fee is a very small, (1.70m) very technical pure AMF/No 10 type

Veiga reminds me of a potential (in some ways, but is not there at the WC level yet) Federico Valverde (an absolutely monster player), Veiga is a little taller than Valverde but not quite the same explosive pace, although Veiga is far from slow at all, it's just that Valverde is a machine that can run nonstop for 90+ minutes, he has incredible stamina

the truly sad thing is that you take the £63m we shit way on CuCu and add in the £20-25m or so we could get for Maatsen and there is all of (that is around €100m) the cash it would take to buy Nuno Mendes or Alphonso Davies from PSG and Bayern, the two best LBs on the planet (Robertson is soon 30yo, so not an option)

I'm with you on the need for a CF, just not with the idea of buying someone to hopefully fill the void that we're stuck with. Morata, Lukaku, etc.

If you are going to splash the cash for an undisputed starting CF, it has to be the right option. I might sound like a broken record at this point, but Osimhen and Kane are the only options that fill me with hope of being good fits; one will seemingly require us to break our transfer record by some margin, and the other is a pipe dream because of Scrooge.

I rated F.Mendy at one point; he's unfortunate that Ancelotti just doesn't fancy him at all.

Another player you've mentioned in the past is Udogie. It will be interesting to see how his career develops at that other London club.

Liverpool are no longer actively pursuing Nice’s Khephren Thuram despite reports of scheduled talks with Nice this week.

There’s no doubt Liverpool explored the deal, but the arrival of Dominik Szoboszlai means other targets are being looked at instead now.

Liverpool were certainly not put off by the price. Thuram is available for far less than the €60m that is sometimes reported.

Thuram is quite prepared to leave Nice for the right suitor. But he will want regular game time with a view to making France’s 2024 Euros squad having been capped for the first time this year.

Liverpool are very much in the race for Romeo Lavia, though. Arsenal and Chelsea are considering the Southampton midfielder as well, but neither club are quite as active yet. Of course that can change.

Chelsea are focused on Brighton’s Moises Caicedo (and I am told to expect a hectic week on that front) and Arsenal, after completing the Declan Rice deal, will wait and see if Thomas Partey and Granit Xhaka leave. Neither club can be discounted for Lavia just yet.

Southampton want £50m for Lavia, although a deal for a lower fee may be possible, especially with Southampton relegated last season. Although Manchester City’s £40m buy-back clause doesn’t kick in until 2024, suitors are very much using it as a valuation yardstick.

Given Barcelona’s current situation, they are keen on offloading players in the coming days so as to improve their Financial Fair Play situation by reducing the salary mass and generating revenue.

Players returning from loan and some of the stars that are not a big part of Xavi’s plans have been put up for sale. At the same time, there are some who are regarded as ‘untouchables’.

As per multiple reports, midfield mainstay Frenkie de Jong is one of those players who are counted as an ‘untouchable’ for whom no offers would be entertained.

Despite that, journalist Achraf Ben Ayad is reporting that Barcelona are not ruling out the possibility of selling de Jong even though there have been reassuring statements coming forth from the club.

This update comes after club president Joan Laporta confirmed that the club had an offer of €100 million for the Netherlands international last summer but decided against the sale.

“We had an offer of €100 million for De Jong and we were right not to accept it. We’ve received offers for Pedri, Ansu Fati, Christensen, de Jong, and Araújo but we think they have to continue. They are the present and the future of the club,” he had said.

However, it must be remembered that multiple reliable sources had reported that Barcelona had agreed to sell de Jong to Manchester United last summer and the move did not go through only because the player dug his heel and refused to leave.

And it appears that despite what the president says, the possibility of de Jong being sold if a ‘special’ offer were to come along is not entirely ruled out.

De Jong continues to attract interest from Manchester United while Bayern Munich are also said to be looking at him as an option.

As per Gerard Romero, though, de Jong still does not want to leave Barcelona and has told Xavi the same already.

Like last summer, it is expected that the Dutchman, with a market value of €75 million, will once again reject any advances from elsewhere. So, an exit would be off the table despite Ben Ayad suggesting that the club are not ruling out his sale.

Bayern Munich now believe ‘unbelievable’ player is going to join Chelsea

Bayern Munich were interested in signing Moises Caicedo during the summer transfer window, but have now dropped out of the race as they believe that he has agreed terms with Chelsea.

That is according to journalist Christian Falk who has taken to Twitter to suggest that the Bavarian giants are not planning to make a bid for the Ecuador international.

It may be a surprise to some that Moises Caicedo remains a Brighton player at this stage of the window. Many would have anticipated that he would be one of the first big movers of the summer.

Bayern think Caicedo is heading to Chelsea

Chelsea have made a first attempt to sign the 21-year-old. As reported by the Daily Mail, the Blues have made a £60 million bid for Caicedo.

Brighton however, want £80 million for the ‘unbelievable‘ midfielder.

Chelsea obviously have some work to do to meet the Seagulls’ demands. But it would appear that one club believe that he is indeed Stamford Bridge-bound.

Bild writer Christian Falk has taken to Twitter to claim that Bayern Munich have backed away from a move for Caicedo as they think he is edging closer to joining Chelsea…

Caicedo would have the potential to be an outstanding signing for Mauricio Pochettino’s side. Obviously, last year was terrible. But there is still a lot of quality in that squad.

If they can balance the ranks more, Chelsea are definitely going to be one team to watch next season.

And bringing Caicedo in would definitely be one way for the Blues to build further excitement ahead of the start of the Pochettino era.

There is still work to be done. But Bayern believe that he is likely to end up at Chelsea.

Tottenham close to agreement for Wolfsburg’s Micky van de Ven in £30m transfer

Tottenham are close to reaching an agreement with Wolfsburg to sign defender Micky van de Ven for a fee in the region of £30million.

A deal is not yet done but personal terms will not be a problem and there is growing confidence that the transfer will happen.

New manager Ange Postecoglou, who is expected to switch to a back four, is seeking to bolster his defence and Van de Ven is a centre-back who can also play on the left side.

The 22-year-old impressed in the Bundesliga last season, featuring in all but one of Wolfsburg’s league games as they narrowly missed out on European qualification.

Van de Ven, who started his career at Volendam before joining Wolfsburg in 2021, captained the Netherlands Under-21 squad at the ongoing European Championship.

He played 90 minutes in all three group-stage games against Belgium, Portugal, and Georgia, but despite conceding just two goals, three draws saw the Netherlands exit the competition.

Tottenham have already signed Guglielmo Vicario and James Maddison, as well as making Dejan Kulusevski’s stay permanent. The club have also agreed a deal to sign Manor Solomon on a five-year contract.

Postecoglou’s side kick off their pre-season with a friendly against West Ham in Perth on July 18.

Their first Premier League game is at Brentford on August 13.

Callum Hudson-Odoi wants to leave Chelsea this summer

Callum Hudson-Odoi has decided to leave Chelsea this summer.

Hudson-Odoi, who spent last season on loan at Bayer Leverkusen, still has one year left on his contract.

The England international is reporting for the first day of pre-season training at Chelsea on Tuesday afternoon under new head coach Mauricio Pochettino but does not expect to be at the club much longer.

Chelsea were already prepared to listen to offers for the 22-year-old, who has been at the club since he joined the Under-8s team as a boy.

Hudson-Odoi made his debut for Chelsea in January 2018 and has gone on to make 126 appearances. He has won the Champions League, Europa League, FIFA Club World Cup and UEFA Super Cup during his time with the senior squad.

But Hudson-Odoi feels the time has come to move to a club where he has a better chance of regular first team football. Nottingham Forest, Fulham and AC Milan are among the clubs who are interested.

A transfer fee to seal Hudson-Odoi’s departure has still to be agreed but the winger is expecting to resolve his future soon so he can prepare for the season at his new club.
