Vesper 31,109
shoot me now Jorginho prioritising Chelsea stay https://thehardtackle.com/reactions/jorginho-prioritising-Chelsea-stay/ Jorginho has every desire to continue his career at Chelsea, according to his agent, amid links with Barcelona. Jorginho was one of those signings that instantly elevated the quality of the Chelsea squad. The Blues had to dig deep to compete for the Italian international a few years ago and have Maurizio Sarri to thank for signing him ahead of Manchester City. While Sarri did not last long at Stamford Bridge, Jorginho has continuously upgraded his game each season to become one of Chelsea’s essential stars. He is their current midfield lynchpin, and his influence continues to grow. Amid Chelsea’s uncertainties at the end of last season, they put a few essential ideas on the back burner. The club saw key players depart when their contracts expired, as they could not extend their deals. It was already too late when they came into the position to do so. snip

The seem to call him the pressing machine and from what I seen I really like his style of play. He is a decent player, but certainly nowhere near a player I would put in my top 5 CMF targets bigbluewillie

Might be a good cost effective squad option that potentially allows us to go big on other targets, especially considering we're likely to lose two senior first team midfielders to free transfers next summer. There's links still with Bellingham, De Jong and Rice but realistically I cannot see a situation where we buy two big money central midfielders, when we're also being strongly linked with Nkunku and Gvardiol and we also need to strongly consider our options for backup to Reece, Goalkeeper and long term striker, unless they're confident to roll with Auba until Broja is ready. I think we will probably spending big on the midfielders since Kante and Jorginho are leaving. Kovacic also has 2 year left, so we need to make another big decision either keep or sell. We'll definitely spend in that position but some of the big name midfielders we're looking at £100m or more, so can't see us buying more than one of that profile. Our assessment is different on Jorginho, if you think he is upgradable and better options available that is fine. My point at the very least is resign Jorginho, and bring in enforcement. I'd be shocked if a deal wasn't offered to Jorginho (whether he accepts it or decides to cash in on a nice deal + signing on fee from an Italian club remains to be seen). That leaves Declan Rice, let's see how much the new owners are willing to spend...

Maybe Potter has some way to better utilise him, and if so, he truly is a genius.
Pizy 19,280
Players like Bellingham and De Jong are likely only to come if we have CL football next season. Rice I feel would jump at the chance no matter what if we pay the money. So I still think he’s the likeliest of the super expensive midfield targets. Next summer is the last one where we would get 5 full sub 30yo seasons out of Rice (and almost all trad DMFs go to shit after they are older than 30yo), so, in terms of paying way over £100m, say in the the £125m to even £150m range, it will be do or die time for me
