30-35 mil for Walker-Peters? I swear they rip you off once they hear Chelsea's bidding

Shop overseas. This EPL inflation is a joke and we shouldn't have any part in it.

Transfer fee inflation over the last 24 months is staggering. It seems that the price to any top club, for any player under 28 with more than a year remaining on his contract, starts at £60m these days. In that context £30m-£35m seems positively reasonable but of course it's a ludicrous amount of money. The only way we can avoid getting caught in the overspending trap is to walk away but when we do that the board gets screamed at.

I really hoped that the covid situation and playing games for such a long period behind closed doors would go some way to correcting the transfer market and bringing prices down but like you said it's gone the other way and unfortunately teams continue to be prepared to spend the money.

I like the signings and agree we need them but a 200m rebuild with 1 attacking signing and no change in midfield?

Not sure if there is anyone realistically available in attack that improves us.

De Jong is a possibility but obviously we are not going to address everything in one window. Best to address the actual backbone of our system.

Feels like we’re going the City route of having starting quality players on our bench at every position which would be nice if we can pull all these moves off. Except City have the ability to rotate their whole attack without a substantial drop in quality whereas we can’t.

And vice versa their defence.

When Dias and Cancelo are out of the team, they struggle.

why would livramento come back, just to sit on the bench

With the amount of games we play, he will get plenty of gametime.. just not first choice. Although that could change since we are looking for someone that could challenge James for that spot and I feel he has previously shown he is up to it, we just need this season to see if he is still at that same level atleast after his injury.

Apparently Spurs have a buy back on Walker Peters.

I don't know the exact mechanics and legalities of doing a deal but I would assume just the mere presence of a buy back leaves Southampton somewhat restricted to what they can ask for in a transfer.

If they ask for too much, what would stop the buying club like Chelsea having a discussion with Spurs to buy the player back and flip him over to us for a couple of million extra?

Carney is probably with a view to a loan somewhere.  I can't see where he'd play much... especially if likes of gilmour, barkley and to an extent even RLC struggle to get a look in regularly.    We have a plethora of midfielders
