But we really got away with it, with the other teams not taking their chances and help from the ref. Maybe so, but he still capitalised on it. Also, I'm sure there will be plenty of times this season when things will go against us. At the end of the day, we have 7 points. Hopefully, we can build on things. 57 minutes ago, Strike said: I watched two average performances benefiting from referees chalking off goals. I expect a healthy gap between us and Arsenal/Liverpool by November. We have good depth but we are short of genuine attacking quality in the XI, especially if Delap is out for a while As I mentioned above, we capitalised on those decisions. Did you watch Liverpool V Newcastle (who had 10 men for more than half the game)? The lack of another first team AM could be a problem with Palmer out for however long. I'm not expecting much from Buonanotte. Edited yesterday at 15:06 by LAM09
Vesper 30,262 Posted yesterday at 15:50 Share Posted yesterday at 15:50 Chelsea sign Ishe Samuels-Smith 33 days after selling him to Strasbourg https://www.nytimes.com/athletic/6591507/2025/09/02/ishe-samuels-smith-Chelsea-strasbourg-blueco/ Ishe Samuels-Smith has rejoined Chelsea from Strasbourg, 33 days after signing a permanent deal with the French club. The Athletic reported in July that Samuels-Smith, 19, was to join Strasbourg for an undisclosed fee and this was confirmed by the clubs — both of whom are owned by BlueCo, the consortium led by Todd Boehly and Clearlake Capital — on July 30. On September 1, transfer deadline day in Europe’s top five leagues, The Athletic reported that the defender was to sign for Championship side Swansea City on loan. He had appeared on the bench for one of Strasbourg’s Ligue 1 games but did not feature. On September 2, the clubs released statements saying that Samuels-Smith had rejoined Chelsea, with the Premier League side confirming that the Englishman had completed a loan move to Swansea. The Welsh club also confirmed Samuels-Smith had signed on loan from Chelsea. The English transfer window closed at 7pm BST on September 1 but clubs can submit deal sheets to give themselves two extra hours to complete moves. Clubs are also not obligated to publicly announce transfers before the deadline — Manchester City, for example, only confirmed the signing of Gianluigi Donnarumma from Paris Saint-Germain on the morning of September 2. Sources with knowledge of the situation say that fellow defender Ismael Doukoure remaining at Strasbourg and signing a new contract on August 20 until June 2028, played a part in the decision for Samuels-Smith to leave. His loan to a Championship club is seen as a chance to get competitive minutes, similar to Reece James’ time at Wigan Athletic in 2018-19. He has yet to feature for the first team but has played regularly for and captained the Under-21s. In April, Chelsea announced the England Under-19 international had signed a new contract until 2031. Samuels-Smith had been one of six players to move from Chelsea to Strasbourg. Mike Penders, Kendry Paez and Mamadou Sarr joined the Ligue 1 side on loan — FIFA rules permit a maximum of three loans from one club to another — while Samuels-Smith, Mathis Amougou and Ben Chilwell signed permanently. Sarr had joined Chelsea from Strasbourg on a permanent deal at the start of the transfer window. BlueCo completed its purchase of Chelsea in May 2022, taking control of Strasbourg the following June. Shambolic from both of them. Neither is exactly going to be prime Mourinho Chelsea throughout this season. But what Liverpool will have is an outrageous array of attacking options one they inevitably sign Isak. So while yes, we have serious question marks about our defense and keeper, had we made the right attacking signing I truly do think we could’ve mounted a title challenge. We wouldn’t have had enough to actually win it but at least fight for it. City’s reaction to James Trafford struggling in 2/3 games? Letting Ederson go and signing Gigi Donnaruma. A top GK who made countless big saves in some of the biggest games in the run up to PSG winning the CL last season. Would reckon his presence helps that defensive unit. Liverpool sold attacking players like Nunez, Diaz who worked very hard pressing from the front & added another attack minded midfielder with Wirtz. That on top of replacing Trent and Robertson with two more attack minded fullbacks. All of a sudden look incredibly more open and vulnerable defensively? Is anyone really shocked? Not entirely. But flip side to that is Arne Slot showed last season he can find solutions to make Liverpool really difficult to play against, how many clean sheets did they get last year? If he’s able to find that balance…. Title winning teams balance is always key. Need both sides of the coin for that, without a top GK or top CB though - we will always find ourselves lacking over such a long season when it really matters. And even with a pretty half decent goals against record last season, we were still talking about Robert Sanchez mistakes and conceding extremely poor goals from lack of organisation and leadership costing us points far too often. And will be the same this season because we lack top quality there. Adding more goals to this team without addressing those two colossal sized problems isn’t going to solve anything. Blue Armour 4,453
Even if other clubs have had better transfer windows ( and IMO they did), Im hoping Chelsea still quietly upsets the big boys this season and gives Liverpool a bigger run for their money compared to last season. Just like how Joao Pedro is quietly proving to be THE difference maker this season. The amount of press and fawning of opposition fans and pundits over other clubs like Liverpool had become insufferable over the past year. Until the dust settles, I'll keep hoping that we can stick it to the lot of them, just like we did in the CWC. We still haven't sorted the keeper situation out, that is the most and biggest issue in the team as well as a quality CB. Had we addressed these areas I would of been really pleased, but another window is passing without a keeper, it's a serious problem Now that I read this post it actually does seem we had an average window of course it depends entirely on how those mentioned players perform, thats if they even given enough game time. Its pretty much Palmer/Pedro/Santos and with Delap's absence, it opens up a chance for the young Argentinian kid to fight for a spot. Liked the look of him at Leicester, has the passing ability, decent shot on him as well

Thats why we were trying to offer Nkunku or even George as part of the Simons deal but Nkunku wasn't interested
Special Juan 28,182
Palmer will be ready after the Internationals, I think it was just precautionary and they knew we could possibly do without the risk against Fulham and then they had a 2/3 week buffer with the Internationals.
