Soon after Maresca told the media that Chelsea needed to strengthen the defence, he was seen in conversation with Paul Winstanley and Laurence Stewart.

(@NizaarKinsella)

maresca was probably asking them "how much can we spend to meet UCL requirement" 😆

That photo must be from the second leg of the 2018 FA Youth Cup Final. One of my favourite Chelsea performances ever. I sat behind one of the goals, as we totally outclassed them. Tino Anjorin's cameo as a second half substitute briefly had me believing  that he could be a star.

Hudson-Odoi was the star of the show that second leg. Amazing when you see how far some of the players in that game have come. CHO, James, Guehi, Gilmour, Gallagher, Smith-Rowe (even though he has regressed a bit) and of course Bukayo Saka who is one of the best wingers in the league.

Think we gonna struggle hard to get rid of Jackson and Nkunku nobody wants them, not for the fees we want anyways.

Quite right we going to be stuck with unwanted players Jackson,  Sterling, Chillwill,  Disasi unless we let them go for free virtually.

The interplay between Callum and Tino after Tino subbed on was fun to watch. I thought Saka's best moments in that final were in the first leg at The Bridge after coming on as a sub. In the second leg I felt he was petulant and ineffective. I especially enjoyed his sulking after his second half 'goal' was disallowed.

Smith-Rowe was the star of the first half of the game at Chelsea, and Arsenal's best performer overall I felt.

It is still my suspicion that Marc has told the club he does not want to return.

Liverpool supposedly lost interest in him a couple weeks ago, I don't believe this rumour right now, unless we go out and buy someone better it doesnt make sense

He will get straight into the team etc at Liverpool he will be on the bench

The only doubt is that even after all the much better biz we have done, they do want to sign bledy garbanzo so I wont be surprised if they go out and bring in a prospect outside the top 10 list of options!

grrr

I see CFCPys tweeted a clip of what Maresca actually said about a new CB yesterday. Apparently he did NOT actually say we need to go out and get a new one. It was misreported by everyone last night. He was asked “do you need to bolster your defense after the Colwill injury” and he said yes most likely not knowing what the word bolster means.

He probably just meant that we need to find a solution to the problem. Not necessarily through the market, though.

here hes asked directly after the bolster comments if there's plans to bring in a new CB and he says we will see as he nods, and I've heard today from a few mates and a few online that he was spotted with the DOF's right away after the game (I usually don't hang about long after the game so I can get home quicker or go to the pub right after so didn't see much past final whistle!!)

They're def in the market for another CB

He plays LCB ibut he's still right-footed in all his actions. I would prefer to sign a left footed CB

hes as good with both lol

I posted this in here the otherday from a summary I got from his stats pages:

"Marc Guehi is right-footed, although he is known for his comfort and skill using his left foot, particularly when playing on the left side of the backline."

Maresca has said in the past of the importance of a lefty at CB in his team for balance.

I reckon this is because of when Cucu is moving around the LCB is playing on the edge of the back line.

With LW/RW cutting inside on their inside foot it could be argued that lefties should play right side and righties play left side in defense but that's probably an whole debate in itself.

Here's chat gpt total summary of guehis feet (although i air on the side of this is all bs)

Marc Guehi is a right-footed centre-back who has established himself as a key player for both Crystal Palace and the England national team, renowned for his technical ability and composure, particularly when playing on the left side of the backline despite his natural right-foot dominance. His proficiency with his left foot, developed through extensive individual drills in the Chelsea academy, allows him to execute precise passes and maintain control under pressure, making him a valuable asset in build-up play. As of August 2025, he is set to captain Crystal Palace in the upcoming Community Shield match against Liverpool on August 10, 2025
