We should have been at least trying for Delap, like slapping a fee in front of them and make them knock it back as opposed to doing nothing. We are one injury away from disaster up front and as bad as Jacskon has been we actually need him. We have dicked around this month and got nothing that has strengthened us and simply made ourselves more exposed.

Who is to say we didn't? A lot of our transfers aren't widely in the media until quite late. Additionally, Delap now vs the Summer is probably a very different proposition. Now, I reckon Ipswich would've asked for £100m+. They would have justified that by saying he is their best chance of staying in the league at that is worth £170m.

In the Summer, with Ipswich likely relegated they won't be able to demand the same. The only issue may be City's £40m buyback but with the way they spent in the window you have to suspect they were loading up for a ban or some sort of punishment, so not sure they will be able to do anything.

Honestly, I just do not think he was ever a possibility in the window unless we vastly overpaid.

How does the buyback work though?    Let's say someone bids 60 million for Delap, do City still get to buy him back at 40 million or do they waive that right and get some sort of sell on clause instead?

Would make sense for City to just activate the clause and sell him to the highest bidder.   No wonder why they wanted that clause into O'Reilly's deal.

Pretty sure it’s first dibs on the player at the amount that was in the contract, so if it’s 40m they can buy him back for 40 million

But if player rejects to go there nothing City can do. And why would he go there when they are already full of strikers. Here on the other hand it's easy to be number one.

That latest Fabrizio tweet about our plan for this kid we just signed is unbelievable. Payed 15m to basically rent this kid for a few months with zero intention of him actually being a long term Chelsea player. He probably won’t even be given a game by Maresca and then in the summer he goes to Strasbourg never to be seen or heard from again.

Surely it would just be an attempt to repeat the (somewhat) successful journey of Andrey Santos - go on loan for 2 years or so and if you are standing out in France as one of the best CM then maybe you get a shot to be integrated here?

This. Even if he doesn't reach Santos levels he then becomes a serviceable player for Strasborg and/or gets sold on for a small profit.

I don't mind these sort of transfers, but we do need to get some decent players for the Chelsea first team.

So to sum up winter transfer window:

Defense

Out: Chilwell, Veiga and Disasi

In: Anselmino, Chalobah and Josh introduced

Midfield

Out: Casadei, Carney

In: Amougou

Attack

Out: Felix and we lost Mudryk

In: no one although George is now regularly part of the team

Not important players so pretty much nothing changed.

Thanks, tbh found it hard to keep track with the total mess we have in the squad, so Anselmino is a first teamer competing for a CB spot now?

Looks like we managed to clear out a lot of B teamers and some Z-listers

Probably good from a financial perspective given how little most of these players have actually brought so far this season, and maybe good from a morale point of view for those who stay (more realistic chance to play serious minutes for all of them).

Nope, but getting rid of him while we are already kind of limited in attack and not having replacement signed up is crazy. He also is a mainstay in the UECL and the more we used our fringe players for that, the better chances it helps us in the league games as our first team players have more rest.

That was in the group stages. I'm sure Palmer will be added to our squad for the KO stages, so his game time would be even less. I totally agree someone should have been signed to fill his void, but we have been crying out for another CF for months and look where we are.

Veiga I rated and shame he didn't get more games as CB. But if he had attitude problems with the coach then best he got a loan and that he does good is better for us so we can sell at a profit.

Fofana was recalled before last night's game. Guiu's injury had no part to play in Fofana being recalled.

David Fofana was injured just before xmas, and is expected to be out for the rest of the season; it's why he was recalled.

We have Enzo, Caicedo, Lavia, Santos and Ugo. All young players. On top we get two more. Why? Casadei was best player on U20 World Cup and how that ended? Just bunch of pointless signings...

I think the club might be trying to move on from Ugo and Lavia. One plays in a position that we are full with the other can't stay healthy

If Veiga has a good loan spell, gains his mojo and convinces at centre back, it could work out well for both parties without needing to sell him.

What is behind the hesitation to try him at CB here. He seemed physically capable of handling the CB role
