The 19-year-old spent the better part of the 2023-2024 campaign with Chelsea’s U21 squad, with which he logged six goals in 11 games. The fact Chelsea’s sister club would break their record transfer for Washington seems to have raised eyebrows within the game. The deal was advanced up to the point a medical in London was scheduled for the 19-year-old. However, L’Equipe understands the deal collapsed in the 11th hour.
